Now that she has her daughters attention maybe some normal parenting techniques will work. But sometimes you have to step up and do something outragious to get a kid's attention.

She already has been forced by her parents to give up basketball and track because of slipping grades, and said she hopes to improve in school so she can play next year.

they took away something she liked and that didn't work .....so i think what they did was a good idea!! :thumbup:

Somehow, I don't think that the parents have not tried positive reinforcement. The girl admitted that they've already gone the traditional route of taking away rewards. They live in an affluent area -- this may well be the lesson that the teenager needed to save her future. It's not like the mother left her standing there alone. Stoopid bleeding heart softies who called DHS.

I love how everyone likes to blame the parents when the children turn out bad. But then blame the parents when they care and discipline their own children. Stick to your guns parents! :thumbup: for this parent for caring!

I agree with everyone else. Atleast these parents care enough about their daughter to want her to have a future of choices and not an uneducated one. Alot of parents these days just give up because they are too busy with their own lives and like FBP said atleast the mother didnt just leave her there alone she proves she cares enough about her daughter to do anything for her.

It is a cute statement. I'm not sure that embarrasing her in front of the whole country will improve her behavior or not, It should inspire a change of somekind :mad3: . It will definitly come out in a psychotherapy session in her future. I guess the parents do deserve some credit for at least trying to solve thier problems.

I would like to see a follow up at the end of the school year and hear about her behavior and her grades and see if it really did make a difference.

I think some kids need a good swift kick in the rear and it may have been what she needed.

Interesting to see the outcome... if this just changes her for a week and we go back to normal or if it really does help! We gotta be careful coz soon we might see kids on every street corner!!!

Better her standing on a corner now and hopefully improving herself than standing on the corner 4 years from now working to pay her rent...:shrug:
