View Full Version : Mac to PC file type conversion help

Ok my boss gave me a CD full of images but I believe they were burnt with a Mac and they show up all weird on my PC. My PC views them only as a generic file. Any way to convert these to something my PC can read? Thanks!

pfft, a mac can read your files, blame the computer that isn't working right.

what's the file extension? I find irfanview is a very good program.

Macs (by default) do not add the 3 digit file extension to files but they will open cross-platform on both PCs and also *should* open under Linux.

I know you've already got a solution but there's the "why?". :)
You could also add the file extension if you wanted to (jpg, whatever).

Working at Kinkos for almost 5 yrs, I had to tell a lot of people "yes we can open that format" and then I'd roll my eyes. :hihi: The only problem I've ever seen cross-platform is with fonts; on OS9 and anything before it, *most* Mac fonts didn't have spaces between the name of the font - for instance, Times New Roman on a PC was TimesNewRoman on a Mac. So you'd have to sit there and either substitute the fonts (if Illustrator/Quark/whatever didn't figure it out on its own) or re-plug in the fonts.
