I am having a problem importing music from a CD ...(cda). I don't see any wave forms and I can't hear the music. Am I supposed to convert it to another format first?

You need to use the command (under File, I think) "Extract Audio from CD", then select the track on the CD and it will extract the audio and display the waveform for you.
Otherwise you can rip the track yourself and then open the audio file yourself.
You can't just open a .cda file off the disc.

Wow, I am glad someone knows this program. Today I realized that it wouldn't recognize cda format. So I used CRWIN to convert it to a wav. format and it worked.

I am attempting to reduce the vocals from a song. I used the Center Channel Extractor from Adobe Audition and had poor results even by reducing it by 40 DB.

Do you know if there is another method using that program for silencing the vocals? From what I have been reading, it's a futile task regardless of what program is used.

In my experience, the center channel extractor method is not that useful for reducing vocals, especially when the source material was not mixed to 5.1.

I've had pretty good experiences with the AnalogX DirectX plug-in on things like Disney songs with simple vocal lines, or singer/songwriter stuff.

If you have a few days, you could check out csp-audio.com - they have the best results I've heard. I believe they charge $25 per song.

I usually recommend my clients try to find the karaoke version if one exists, because reducing the vocals in a song always takes some of the instrument sounds out with it.

I am very familiar with what's available on karaoke discs. Even with the incredible selections, there are some songs I like which are not available.

I will look for that plug-in you mentioned and try it. Thanks

Have you tried any winamp plugins? (http://www.winamp.com/plugins/browse.php?search=yes&filter=C&query=vocal+remover)

YES. Vocal remover is pretty bad. Thanks
