get old versions of aim. other options include trillian (like you mentioned) and gaim. i switch off between trillian and gaim.

triton looks cool and all but its a freaking crime how bloated and malicious it can be. Don't bother with it random pop ups come with it and ads a plenty while you're chatting. It's a spammer's dream.
