We're back from T-Day in Baltimore. The visit was actually not very pleasant. THO's grandmother (on her mother's side) was in a horrible mood the entire time, snapping at anyone and everyone for the slightest thing. No one was happy with her by the end of the day Thursday. She was also quite unfair to one of THO's sisters. Seems granny doesn't approve of her being a vegetarian and she made no effort to hide her feelings about it. Granny grumbled about it a little bit last year, but she pulled out the stops this year.
Between the overall mood, horrible amounts of cigarette smoke, uncomfortable bed (my back is *#&%ing KILLING ME!!!), etc, I almost wish I hadn't gone.
There were some positive things. I didn't have to drive - this was a BIG plus. I read and rested and listened to music and did a little writing on my laptop on the drive up and back. I rarely get relieved of driving duties, so this was a particularly nice treat for me. There were some nice moments with THO's sisters during the drive up and back and in Baltimore. I met one of their cousins - we seemed to have a lot on common on "green" issues like renewable energy and such. That was pretty cool. The turkey was nice and moist. The dog (most of you know I am not at all a dog person) was quiet and well-behaved.
I'm most likely not going next year. The sister I mentioned has made similar noises. I can't bring myself to feel bad about feeling that way.
