This is in the town of Wilbur by the Sea. There were no less than three speed traps this weekend. The town is 8 blocks long X 3 blocks wide. On an island. And people STILL sped through(!).

If my radar didn't go off... I'd probably ignore it. :heh:
But then again... if it is THAT bad, I probably wouldn't be speeding anyways.

Three speed traps.....sounds like another good reason to avoid podunk little towns.

I'd slow down and do the speed limit, especially considering the size of the town...

This is very true in this particular given situation.
We have some spots like that down in the "incorporated areas" of Southern Alabama/Northern Florida where that kind of logic applies.

Nope... but I drive though places like Flomaton, Alabama which has a posted 35 MPH speed limit and you'd betta be doing like 34....

You sure don't wanna get stopped for speeding while doing a DWB in those little redneck towns.

I wholeheartedly agree...
For example, there is this one area in Georgia, between Tallahassee, FL and Atlanta that is NOTORIOUS for pulling certain "college students" over as they pass through that County. :hmm:
When you are there... you keep your windows rolled up and do the speed limit. No if, ands, or butts... (or your butt might be spending the night there... )

Only small town I remember being able to fly through in LA was Atmore. Great lil' town. Maybe it was because the drag strip was there! :)

In No. California near Sacramento, there are several small towns (Sheridan is one that comes to mind) like this that purposely lower the speed limit from 60 down to 35. They got sued and lost and the CA supreme court ordered that they had to 'stagger' the speed drop. There are some towns along 395 from LA to Bishop that are like this too (Independance is one).

There is a town in WV that is the speed trap capital of the US: Summersville. This town has ~3,500 residents and they had ~15,000 speeding tickets that were handed out in 2000. They allow you to pay an extra fee to not report your ticket to your homestate. It is a racket.

We haven't seen you around on the boards in a bit - our thread paths must not have crossed. Or did you have me on ignore? ;)
"We" being my officemate and I: he always gets a kick out of your 'what me worry' attitude.

I'd slow waaaaay down! Or better yet, avoid the town all together if possible.

And I'd make sure I don't give anyone in the town my business. No support for that community whatsoever.

Yikes, I should be greatful I live in LA where if you don't speed you'll get run over or something!
I laugh at those things. They have the 'Enforced by Radar' signs everywhere but until I see someone actually pulled over or the cop, sitting on his bike, trying to catch speeding cars, then thats when I slow down.

All I have to mention are Waldo and Starke, FL. Two of the WORST speed traps in the country as noted by AAA. In Waldo the speed goes from 65 to 55 to 45 to 35 to 25 in less than 100 yds. The signs are all within sight of each other. Its right above Gainesville and they loved to get all the college kids. In fact, we got nailed there when I was leaving Gainesville one year. My step father had flown down to do the drive with me, I cant recall which one of us was driving but as I dont remember paying that ticket, I can only guess we got a warning.
A few miles up the road, you hit the lovely town of Starke, home of the Starke Prison. They are pretty enforcement happy there as well.
However, I still think that the entire state of Georgia is one giant speed trap with a bunch of lying cheating stealing people posing as officers working in collusion with the local courts. The only state where I have gotten pulled over for driving a nicer car than the cop could ever afford. I have gone into it before and 7 years after it happened I am still very very bitter. I hate having to agree to a plea ONLY because I am cross country and it would cost me more to get back and fight it than pay the pittance.
