this sucks-i bought a portable dvd player for someone for christmas only to find out they were getting their spouse one for christmas. the store happens to meijers if it matters! and the pisser is the rebate had to be sent in by 11/26/2005. i bought it on 11/25/2005 so it was a time thing i had to get it out. and only found out today that their already getting one for xmas and it was going to be a gift for the both of them. and i can't switch it to someone else on my list because its to costly for any others on the list! and my only other ones i might give it to are the wife or daughter and both have no use for one at all.
any way whats your feelings on this im kind got the feeling im screwed! $100 dollar screwed this hurts! :mad2:

You don't... it's yours.
Once you cut the UPC tag off of the box, pretty much unless it is DEFECTIVE and you can prove that to the store... then they wont accept it back since it can't be resold as "new merchandise".
BTW.. even if they would take it back as "DEFECTIVE", most stores will only allow you an even trade for a like unit, minus the box that the replacement unit comes in (as they will put your defective part in the box to ship back to the manufacturer...)
Honestly, that $69 after rebate isn't a bad deal for a portable DVD player (I bought one as well from Meijer). You could either keep it.. or try to sell it on EBay maybe with a notice that the UPC is missing.
Honestly, you didn't get screwed (if you are claiming the same rebate that I am claiming)... I just looked at my rebate for the "Initial 7" DVD Player" and it says the following:
Get $30 by mail when you buy the Initial 7" Portable DVD Player.
Submit:
(1) This completed form
(2) A copy of the store identified sales receipt dated 11/22 - 11/26/05 with purchase price circled.
(3) ORIGINAL UPC & Serial # barcode from the box.
MAIL TO:
Meijer Rebate
Offer #OCMK00011
PO Box 98527
Las Vegas, NV 89193-8527
Must be postmarked by 12/10/05. Offer valid in US & its territories only. Void where prohibited, taxed, or restricted by law. Allow 8 - 10 weeks for processing.
and so on and so forth....
You jumped the gun in mailing in the rebate... if this is for the DVD player that they sold on Black Friday.

some places still might take it back. Staples would.

But Curcuit City wouldn't. I went there yesterday with a DVD burner that was no good. I had cut off the UPC but not yet sent it in. I gave the girl behind the counter the box and the cut off UPC and she said it was a good thing I had not yet sent it in as they would not be able to accept it back.

Talk to the manager and tell him about your situtation and they should take care of you... It fully depends on the manager though.. If its cheap enough, ebay it..

I had a similar thing happen to me at Best Buy. They took it back, less the amount of the rebate. So I still got a refund, but had to wait for the rebate.

Why, yes. Yes, it does.

Can I return my sanity? It doesn't have a UPC, but it seems to be severly cracked.
