When I lived in Cali, I saw low cars all the time, cheap and exotic. The thought I always had was maybe they could have very small inconspicuous rollers right under the front bumper. It wouldn't help in all situations, but it would at least prevent much damage to the body.

Airbags or air shocks would work with an on-board compressor, too, but they can give a harsh ride.
