View Full Version : Quick DVD Burner Question

I hooked up my DVD burner, and there's power, but it is not recognized by my computer, help!! TIA!

Are you replacing a previous drive, or is this a new unit? If new, be sure that the IDE channel is enabled (set to "auto" in your BIOS).

Most drives work fine if the "master/slave" jumpers are set to "CS" (cable select), but if not, if it is on the end of the IDE cable it has to be set to master, and if on the middle connector of the cable it has to be set to slave. If there is another drive on the cable, be sure its jumpers are set correctly, too.

It is a new drive replacing the CD burner. Thanks, i'll give it try tomorrow.

If you're replacing a previous optical drive, the IDE channel will already be enabled in the BIOS. I'd bet on the issue being the jumper settings on the back of the drive.
