I am going to be making a "backup" copy of all of my DJ cd's. Any advice out there for the best brand of disk?

Currently I am looking at the White label Riteks on meritline.

Also, I am trying to find plastic cd sleeves that have an opening on the front for a CD and on the back for a CD insert (square paper cover). Ideally the cd will have a soft center so it doesn't scratch the disc.

It's actually kind of a big debate. Alot of people like Tau Yuden and Ritek. It's more important what factory you get your CDrs from than what brand. The brands I named have a bit more consistency.

The brand is actually Taiyo Yuden - it is usually regarded as the best (above Ridata, from what I have read).

So do you think it is worth almost double the cost to get the Taiyo's over the Ridata's?

It all depends on how valuable the data is. I would never use my Taiyo Yuden discs for everyday burning tasks. I have a cheap-ass spindle for that. However, if I were archiving my personal work (CG, photography, projects, etc) I would find the best quality discs available for that purpose, and currently Taiyo's are known for that. All CD-R's are known to have potential for corruption. Once you lose your personal work it's gone, history. Is the extra bucks saved worth that? It's up to you.

A Karaoke DJ I know likes the Memorex black CDs which can be bought at WalMart. She claims that they have an extra coating which are nearly scratch-proof.

Years ago, Mitsui gold discs were considered the best for DJs/KJs.

I stay away from PNY. I've had the actual aluminum or whatever data layer peel off the plastic disc in some of my spindles.
