ALWAYS GROUND YOURSELF when pumping gas
how?

i have a static electricity personality or something because during the winter i am always getting/giving shocks. i ground myself from getting a shock from the car door when i get out by touching the door before my feet touch the ground.

i could see me starting a fire while pumping gas like that if only static electricity can do it. :(

Never get back in the car once youve started pumping the gas. Sitting back into the seat is what builds up the static charge most times. Becuase you already have the door open you're most likely not going to touch it and re-ground yourself.

There was a study done a while back that showed people getting back into their cars is the #1 cause of accidents like this.

:stupid:

DON'T GET BACK INTO THE CAR UNTIL YOU'RE DONE PUMPING THE GAS!!

Once you ground yourself to the pump & start pumping the gas you're OK.

The #2 thing she did wrong was to remove the nozzle from her gas tank once the fire started. All that are burning at that point are fumes... if she removed the nozzle while the gas was still pumping, then the gas would have ignited like a flame thrower & the outcome would have been a lot worse. I've unfortunately seen THAT video too, and it's not pretty - the woman lived but just barely - she would probably have been better off dead.

If a fire starts, leave the nozzle in the tank, get the hell away & go inside so they can hit the pump cutoff switch.

I've read more women are prone to this than men are. Men usually stick it out while women get back in the car.
