:shake: I get a call and he brings me over two rigs to look at. i reply ok its no problem. he then comes over while i'm speaking to a forum member on my cel. (hehehehe) i grab the units as he about to drop them on the ground in the doorway. its snowing he's in a rush and has to get to work. so i just say I'll take them to look and see what i can do. OPPS ---- he's gone so i take them downstairs and i have a minute to hook them up and see if they fire up.
1st unit---- is a packer bell {you know this is old } big server size case and heavy compared to todays rigs. i see its old i fire it up the screen fires and it saids the battery is doa. Also its missing a floppy drive.
2nd rig-smaller case lucky i had a old keyboard around. its a 486/dx2 and wont fire past the bios!

man these are not worth me taking to the curb for trash!

Packard Hell :ugh:

This guy wanted to see about making these ancient pos's into internet rigs for his kids. Man that's child abuse.

Decent rigs today are chump change.

Packard Bell was terrible. Give me an e-machines any day over PB. Ugh they sucked.

And they were pretty ugly too. Crazy design on the mice.

Best way to upgrade a Packard Smell is with a sledge hammer. Then is is a pile of junk, that's a HUGE step up.

If he wants a cheap rig for his kids, tell him to pick up a Dell Optiplex GX1 (I think they have P3 900MHz) at surpluscomputers.com for something like $99.

Packard Bell... the Godfather of Crappy Computers.

That title has since been passed to Compaq and now HP/E-machines. :heh:

Wow. A friend of mine was unfortunate enough to own a packard bell back in the day. I felt sorry for him. Didn't they (PB) get bought by someone?

Yes, I believe they were bought by AST some time ago. Funny that you don't hear anything about either company anymore...
