I've just moved into a small place and I have only have a VERY limited space for my PCs. I've been looking at the jerker desk from IKEA but its too big. Would like something similar to the jerker since shelves can be added. Height is not the issue, only the length and Width.
The space I have to work with is 40" L and 31 W.
Any suggestions welcome. Thanks!

i just have that little white table top and bought the metal legs separately from ikea. but i only have a laptop. i'm planning to get a 20" widescreen (dell 2005FPW) and it'll probably take up most of the space.

Why not go to your local Office Depot and look at their selections of computer desks.
I'm sure that they have an "efficency" setting that will suit you.
Personally, my computer room is comprised of several desks/tables so I have alot of tabletop space spread out around the room for multiple PCs in my network. (i bought several of my tables used from the Goodwill/Salvation army... amazing what some folks toss out some times. These tables were of better quality than I could reasonably buy for under $100)

I have that big desk from ikea, like it alot, but it takes way too much space. I'm thinking of dremeling/cutting off about 6" of wood/metal on the back of the desk. If it works the desk will be much more space friendly.

My computer's in our family room. The room has a bit of an "indent" along one wall, which is where my computer desk sits (along with a bookshelf turned sideways on one side of the indent). I got my desk/hutch combo from Service Merchandise (when they were still around) for around $180. It's particleboard stuff, but I really like it. It's got the opening on one side for the computer case, a regular drawer and a "hanging file" drawer on the other side, nice wide keyboard drawer, 2 door-covered openings in the hutch, a row of "pigeon-hole" openings between them (above the monitor space), and a nice top shelf for printer, scanner, etc.

Thanks for all the responses.
Dark Fury,
Ive checked out the ones at Office Depot/Max, and staples, The Ikea seems to be the best fit other than the length.
Showtime,
Let me know how that works out for you. If successful, I may have to try that. Do you know if custom table tops can be ordered for the Jerker. Called customer service, they werent sure. They could only tell me if the accessories were in stock or not...
I am also thinking about making my own since the dimensions needed are weird.
Any other suggestions welcome.

I have a GIGANTIC "L" desk I got from OfficeDepot five years ago. It's 5'x5', and works great for computer in the middle, scanner and various electronic gadets on the left, and the whole right side (about 3'x18") to work/write. You may have to look around online, but there are a lot of great deals (many under a bill) to be had.

mine's homemade... bout $100 worth of supplies. i had the opposite problem that you do... i wanted a HUGE desk and didn't want to pay for it. so i built exactly the size i wanted. 8 feet long, 7 feet tall, bookshelves exactly the right size for paperbacks (the wasted space when putting paperbacks on taller store-bought shelves drives me batty.) also nice that i was able to put my own finish on... 8 bajillion layers of polyurethane and it's impossible to damage (believe me... everything short of a housefire has been tried.)

Yeah I was gonna get the IKEA desk but I knew it wouldn't fit in my car, so I picked up the glass top POS from Sam's Club. It works, but I'd like a bigger space for my two monitors.

I USED to have this wonderful huge corner desk....but it's still at my parents and never can be taken out of that room (alas...I glued the parts together...not thinking).
Now I'm on this cheap 3ft by 3ft craptastical desk...one of those little ones that has a spot on the bottom for your PC (but never has enough airflow) and drawers underneath to put printers and such (never giving you room to put your feet under it). The wifey has got just a regular old table with "side flaps" that fold down.

Sounds great. At this point, I may have to build one. If you don't mind, can you take a picture and post it?
Thanks!

Been looking at tables for a while and this is exactly what i want except its 8 inches too long... plus it expensive. Does anyone know if there's a place to have it custom built or to purchase similare table for less? Space is limited that is why i need shelves on top.
Thanks again!

i have a traditional cherry desk with a very high hutch at home, which isn't very computer friendly at all.
a few months ago, i bought a desk from target (they have a pretty good selection). the sizes are very nice...not too big, but also not small and they are computer friendly with pull-out drawers that can be folded out and used to store the computer keyboard. the hutches are optional, but i didn't need it. my roommate has the hutch on hers and it has been really sturdy and nice.

my roommate has the dolce dark walnut set for her room and i have the our house white set for mine.
i have only a small laptop, so this is what i actually use as my "computer desk" and its the perfect size/height:

I'm getting my wonderful huge corner desk back. Apparently I only glued part of the desk together. :D
It comes back to me this June.

Sounds about what I have right now (had a heck of a time fitting it into my room).
I do like having the extra space though (especially for working on multiple computers).
