i was being anal, making absolutely, positively sure that my husband's hotel room for tomorrow night really was just a block away from the test center he's going to friday morning... yep. the distance was so short yahoo driving directions didn't quite know what to do with it...
(this is only mildly funny... stop reading now if you thought this was going to get good and have better things to do.)
Yahoo! Driving Directions - Atlanta, GA
http://maps.yahoo.com/dd_result?newaddr=1808+W+PHOENIX+BLVD&taddr=1745+W+PHOENIX+BLVD&csz=atlanta%2C+ga&country=us&tcsz=atlanta%2C+ga&tcountry=us&name=home
Directions
1. Start at 1808 PHOENIX BLVD, ATLANTA - go 0.1 mi
2. Make a U-turn at PHOENIX PKY onto PHOENIX BLVD - go 0.1 mi
3. Arrive at 1745 PHOENIX BLVD, ATLANTA
it literally tells him to walk .1 miles away, do a u-turn, and walk those .1 miles right back :heh:

Hehehehe Those stupid map programs are designed to take as many highways and interstates as much as possible. It probably just whacked the system out to think you could just drive/walk across the street.
Ah ha! But if you look here on Google maps...where you can zoom in a little closer...you see the reason it has him u-turn is because of the split road. :heh:

well, you did ask for "driving directions." a car can't just up and move right across the street.

One of the best "inventions" ever is Yahoo Maps....I use it probably at least once a week. I don't use the directions, I just print a map to see where I need to go.

I took yahoo maps to Va Beach once. we ended up on a golf course on the road the golf carts drive on. the only water ans sand we saw was the water hazards on the course 7 the sand trap. our hotel was really about 5 miles from the location we where in.
Asked for directions to the River fill 10 Cinimia and the last mile of directions stated "Use local Roads"

No it is actually telling him to drive not walk. And since it is frowned upon to drive on the wrong side of the road or jump over center dividers he must drive to the nearest intersection to get where he needs to go, if he were going be car. If there is center divider then he will have to walk to the corner - cross - and walk back. So I think the maps are probably right on the money.
These things have let me down in the past as well. In their defense it usually involves street construction of some sort.
