VCD Question

I have over 1500 Karaoke video songs (VCD) which presently consume over 500 GB of hard drive space. I would like to compress them without losing picture quality, if that's possible. If it can be done, what storage space could I reduce the 500 GB to?

VCD is already pretty low quailty, but if you really want to compress them, I suppose you could look at something like tmpgenc. You can find guides on how to use it at vcdhelp.com (http://www.vcdhelp.com).

It's been a long time since I have used VCDs so there may be better tools out there now.

As far as how much space you are going to save, it depends on how low you set the bitrate. Less bitrate = Less quality

Honestly Johnny, I don't know if you'd really want to compress them any further than they already are.

Yes, I know. A Karaoke DJ wants to put all of his music on an external hard drive, plus he wants to use the ones I have. I presently have them on three separate 160 GB hard drives.

I guess he could get an external 500 GB unit just for the VCDs.
