so i'm going on vacation in a couple months so everyone knows i want a digital camera and a cheap laptop so i can travel with...
so one of my loving uncles who's into photography got me an ibook through his company (so its a corp. purchase) in florida and is mailing it to me out in cali...
IF apple releases the new ibooks this january at macworld...is it possible to just exchange the thing for one of the new ibooks? my exgirlfriend bought a G5 imac and an ipod within 30 days of them releasing the new imac and ipod and they let her exchange it for the new gear without a problem...
i won't have a recipt and i doubt i can get one because it was bought through his company, but if i keep it sealed and never open it, think an apple store will exchange it for me? I buy apple stuff through the company i for work, so i've never dealt with the apple store...i dunno how that works out...

Hells no.
Nobody does things w/out receipts anymore(for $2k purchases at least) unless you really know someone on the inside. I'd ask your uncle to try to remedy the situation as best he can.
good luck,

even though it's an apple computer that's sealed? it's not like i bought a toshiba online then went to Circuit City to return it...apples only come from 1 place...
oh well...i don't want to be super picky and stuff, my uncle did this to help me out...i'd feel bad asking him to exchange it :)

Don't look a gift horse in the mouth...
...or something like that. :heh:
Why would you want one of the x86 iBooks? What you're getting will outperform them...at least until they throw out faster cpus but I think that'll take some time.
I'll be looking to buy a used dual G5 when the Intel G5s come out because I figure that a lot of people will be trying to switch over and dump all their old equipment (stupidly) thinking that the Intels will be better. PPC G5 systems are going to outperform the Intel ones just like they will with the iBooks.
I'd keep it myself. But Shocky's right...it's highly unlikely anyone's going to let you exchange it without a receipt. Even though they've got the most lenient return policy in the world, I don't even think Walmart would go for that deal (if they sold Macs). :heh:

i like to keep up with the latest trends...at work i got 2 g5's at my cube that i use, and i was going to get a macmini for my home use, but then i read about the intel's coming out, so i've been holding off...
oh, and apparently they are going to be smaller anyways, which is exactly what i want, i was going to get one of those sony viao with that like 10 inch screen or something small like that, but it's like over $2k...and for what you get, i'm not feeling it, so this 12 inch ibook is great....the intel's being a little bit smaller would be even better....
but hey, no looking a gift horse in the mouth ya know :D

I'm not so sure about this. I believe the G4 i/PowerBooks are overperformed by their Intel counterparts, even in Dothans. I believe Anandtech and/or TomsHardware ran reviews on it to basically conclude that it will be a significant performance boost.
