So we had a thread about turkey give-aways a few weeks back... (http://www.gotapex.com/forums/showthread.php?t=94357)
Last friday was our groups first turkey give-away. We had a group-wide teambuilding event, and at the end, we all got to take home a turkey.
Our group is pretty diverse, but we've got a lot of single guys, and a lot of them are foreign nationals (i.e. they didn't grow up with American traditional holiday meals. In no way am I trying to imply any disdain for foreign nationals, rather just point out what many Americans may be taking for granted having grown up here.).
Anyway, the teambuilder is over and we all go to get our turkeys. I'm carrying mine to my car when one of the single guys asks "what is that?"
me: Ummm... it's the turkey.
him: But... it's frozen?!?!
me: Uhh yeah, that's typically how you buy a turkey.
him: What!?!? What the heck am I supposed to do with a frozen turkey!?! I can't eat that!!!
I go dump the turkey in my car and head back to the rest of the group. I mention to some friends that this guy thought the turkeys would be cooked. Another one of the single/foreign national guys asks "huh? What do mean they aren't cooked?"
Long story short, I walked out of there with two turkeys, and could have taken as many as I would liked. All these guys were leaving the turkey behind, since they had no idea how to cook it, and no desire to learn.
I was talking to another single/foriegn national guy. He said he was planning to cut the turkey into pieces and just cook a small portion at a time, leaving the rest of it frozen. I told him "good luck".
So... if your company is giving away turkeys, make sure that people know that they are FROZEN!!! :blite:
