At what point does it just get better/cheaper to buy a big screen HDTV and just use that as your monitor? I mean you can get 30 inch plasma screens for reasonable prices. Why not just get something like that instead?

I get discounts on Dell, Gateway and HP from my job. I put 10% down and can get a no interest loan of up to $3000. I don't know how much the discount is, because you have to be at the job six months. As soon as that time is up, I'll be checking on prices.

Because on this monitor, resolution is 2560x1600. On HDTV, you get about half of that, maximum. HDTVs are great for video playback, but pretty marginal as a main PC display.

I'm sure Dell will do discounts eventually too... I'm sure everyone remembers the craze when the 24" came out.. everyone in a rush to buy..
can't wait till the 30".. gotta figure out how to convince the wife tho... hrm.
