Does anyone know if this product is backlit? It is an LCD, but not all LCD's are backlit (just an FYI). If anyone has this or has found anything about this question, it would be greatly appreciated. I searched everywhere, even sent a question to the company, but received no response.

Nice concept.. AIM/AOL offered something similar a while back.. Doesn't look like it supports any type of wireless encryption, though.. Anyways to answer your question, here is a quote off a review on amazon..
"Only thing I wish the messenger had was a backlight but other than that, it's wonderful. Definitely worth every penny. My friends love it as well. "

Thanks it must have been updated (I had checked the amazon reviews before). The thing you were talking about is the IMFree by Motorola. I have it, but its only catch is it must be registered to your network only, you must have the program running in the background and it doesn't search for available networks because you are locked into your network with the 'wireless point' that it comes with that comes with your handheld. You would think they would do some kind of background check on what went wrong with the first handheld and improve that. I guess I'll have to wait for a backlit version, but I'm sure some mod community could make it backlit (like the ipod was?).
EDIT: I went to one of the other colored versions, that must have been why I missed that review (that was in the first link that showed up). I am really bummed out that it isn't in color, but I may get it as an alternative to using a cell phone and messaging someone for something

It seems there is a backlight mod, I'll have to find someone to do it for me though, thanks a lot for your help
