Last Friday I sat next to this twenty-something guy who I occasionally talk to at a tavern which hosts Karaoke. He is slightly retarded and an extremely nice guy. He actually sings and does an awful job but everyone claps because they like him and understand his limitations.
I asked him how he was doing and he said not very good. He told me that his mother got hit crossing a street after a guy went through a red light and going faster than the speed limit. I was unsure of her condition from the report he gave to me.
Anyway, I asked some of the people there what they thought of this accident. Practically everyone said: "Oh well, she's always drunk", and discontinued the conversation.
I have met this woman. She is attractive, pleasant and seems like a very nice person. I don't know her situation, but her son does live with her and seems to take pretty good care of him.
I was really disappointed with their reactions, especially considering that many of them are heavy drinkers and get drunk quite often.
