This article is inaccurate.....there have been satellite provided high-speed internet services available for more than 5 years, including one by DirecTV where you can use a single antenna to receive both DirecTV and DirecPC high-speed internet service.

UPDATE 1-News Corp. to reveal wireless plans in two months
Mon Jan 9, 2006 12:46 PM ET

Chief Executive Rupert Murdoch on Monday said the company will disclose in the next two months how to enter the wireless high- speed Internet market.

The plans are likely to involve DirecTV Group Inc. (DTV.N: Quote, Profile, Research) investing about $1 billion, Murdoch said.

"You'll be hearing from us within two months on a very clear plan on what will happen," Murdoch told investors attending the Citigroup entertainment, media and telecommunications conference in Arizona.

Murdoch said the plans were likely to be primarily driven by top U.S. satellite TV operator DirecTV Group Inc., which News Corp. controls.

Last year, DirecTV publicly disclosed it was researching plans to enter the wireless market, possibly through an investment and/or a partnership with a company involved in WiMax technology, an emerging form of high-speed wireless service.

Satellite TV service providers do not currently offer high- speed Internet services to residential consumers.

Offering high speed Internet service could improve satellite TV operator's position as it competes against cable operators and telephone companies, which already offer television, Internet service and telephone services to its customers.

But DirecTV executives said at the time no decisions were made.

Interesting. In my area, Qwest bundles DirecTV with their services to have a competitive offer to compete against Comcast.

Here it is again, completely wrong. Direcway has been satellite two-way for more than 5 years.
