i have a gateway laptop with a wireless g build in . and my signal is weak but still able to pick up in my shed /garage . so here is my question . i have heard that if i put a desk top unit in my shed/garage with a wireless card in it .my signal should be much stronger is this true or a wise tale .i hate to spend the bucks for a wireless g nic card for my desk top only to find out i cant get or recive a signal in the shed .im using a linksys wireless g 2.4 broadband router with speed boost .and i buy a speed boost for the desktop if i can get signal. whats your feeling it work and be stronger signal or about the same or worst ?

The external antenna for a desktop PC would most likely get you a better signal, but personally I would probably just put up a wireless bridge (http://www.linksys.com/servlet/Satellite?childpagename=US%2FLayout&packedargs=c%3DL_Product_C2%26cid%3D1134692497433&pagename=Linksys%2FCommon%2FVisitorWrapper) if you can find a midpoint between your router and the shed. But it might be cheaper to buy a desktop wireless card if you want to go that route.

You can get a wireless g cardbus card for $15 from Computer Geeks; I paid $20 for a Motorola one there a month ago. I'd just get a g card for the laptop myself and forego the pain of moving a desktop system and installing a card, but that's just me. :)
