so, ever since I saw old men on the beach roaming around with their metal detectors, I've always wanted one!!!! SO...as it may be, I work at a school and I was talking to one of my students about always wanting a metal detector. LO AND BEHOLD, my student had one that he wasn't using anymore. so he sold it to me for $20. SWEET!!! DOUBLE SWEET!!! I am a very happy camper. I hope I find at least $20 in change :kaching: WOO HOO!!!!

Congrats & good luck!

Neighborhood parks are a great place to find stuff too. One of my co-workers goes to a nearby park several days a week during his lunch and finds lots of coins. He's also found a few rings.

My brothers have them and you can't believe the stuff they have found!..I want one that you can use in up to 4 feet of water or more..did you ever see any of the treasure hunting websights and see what people find? it's amazing!

I have seen a number of public parks with "No Metal Detectors" signs - I guess they got tired of all the holes being dug....

This metal detector is a cheap one I think. But I think it can go at least 3 feet under. It's called a bounty hunter Tracker I-D/505. I havn't brought it out yet. But soon...VERY soon!!!:fro:

I've had friends who bought them, but after a few months they were no longer used, stayed on the shelf in the garage. What I heard from them was that the stories of people finding things were nice, but anecdotal. They were in the minority, that 99% of the time people don't find anything, so they easily get bored with the whole thing and give up going out to look.

If you can get one cheap and trying using it, that's great...you may like the challenge. Unfortunately, my friends bought new, expensive units which then went to waste.

yup...which for a novice metal detectoree, spending $20 to satisfy my metal detector urge isn't that bad =)
