What spyware program(s) do you guys recommend running? Not for a scan every now and then, but for real-time protection.

Today I was perusing a web site that is very serious about fighting spyware. They have lists of recommended (and not recommended products), and bunches of other good information. Take a look at http://www.spywarewarrior.com/
(Click on the Anti-Spyware Comparison link, and on the page it takes you to there is a Recommended Programs link.)

most antivirus these days also does real time scanning of spyware.
Ewido Security Suite 3.0 has a great realtime monitor on it. It's normal scanner is kind of a CPU hog, tho they have gotten much better since version 3.0. They seem to catch most things too, and auto update daily.
they have a 14 day trial here (http://esd.element5.com/product.html?cart=1&productid=531168&languageid=1&oplayout=USA&affiliateid=63733)

Spybot Search & Destroy has a resident task that will help block spyware.

I've been using Spy Sweeper for awhile. It receives very high rating from PCWorld and I do not get a single spyware in my PC and laptop once I started using Spy Sweeper. I found it to be more efficient than Ad-Aware Pro (the paid version). Spy Sweeper is not free but I highly recommend it. It's around $30.

I run both the Microsoft Antispyware Beta and SpyBot.

I love me some spybot. Use the advanced mode for some really neat tools.
I also use the PSTools suite, Process Explorer, rootkitrevealer, and the port monitoring utilities, all free from www.sysinternals.com (This is the guy who busted Sony for their DRM rootkit.)
Also, you can run free virus/spyware scans at http://securityresponse.symantec.com and http://www.trendmicro.com (called HouseCall).
Don't forget that Google is still one of the best spyware removal tools out there.

Webroot Spysweeper is the best... I once got infected and I tried sybot, lavasoft adware and microsoft antispyware.. They all couldnt remove the spyware. I installed a trial version of spysweeper and it immediately found it and removed it..
I would highly recommend Webroot Sypweeper!
