View Full Version : RAZR V3c Battery Life? (VERIZON)

Hi,
I'm just about to pick up a RAZR V3C for VERIZON. It uses CDMA, not the GSM That makes the cingular phones so great ...

So i am a little worried about the battery life. I have two friends with this phone and one complains that the battery life is AWFUL and one says that it is tolerable. The awful guy uses his phone a lot, and says that if he does not plug it into the charger every night, it will be dead by morning.

Btw, my house is in a high-reception area, so i doubt that my battery will run out as quickly. CDMA supposedly ups its transmission (and consequently eats up battery) when you're in a weak service area.

I use about 50-60 minutes a day. Any experience with this phone? (Specific to Verizon or CDMA only ).

I'd say that you'll be charging maybe every 2-3 days

I just got one last week and I have to charge every night. It gets down to a single powerbar by nightfall, my signal is really week at both work and home.

My T-mobile nokia 6170 was a far better phone, mainly due to the v3c stripped features, feels like you can do anything with it unless you want to pay lots of money. Guess I have to live with it for 2 years.

On a side note, anyone know what is the best bluetooth headset to get? Do any of them use the same charger as the V3c?

My friends with the RAZR both have the motorolla blue tooth headsets and are impressed with their quality. Dunno about the chargers though.

Thanks... The battery life really seems dependent on the signal strength at home. I live in downtown boston, so the strength is good here, but my office is out in the sticks.... I might get one of the nicer samsung phones now, i'm thinking. I've got samsung now and it is niiiiiceee... but lacking features.

Motorola BT headsets are charged by their two-pronged standard plug - if you've ever owned a non-Razr Motorola phone, you know what it is - as opposed to mini-USB which Razrs appear to have. I have the HS850 and am very happy with it.

Its going to depend on what area you are in. If you are constantly in an EVDO area you will get great battery life. If you are between the two and the signal has to switch between EVDO and 1xRT then you will see poor battery life. You can always just disable EVDO if this is the case.

anybody remember the Star-tac, by motorola? I had forgotten about it, but my uncle still had one, and looking at that thing it's actually smaller than alot of the current flip phones. RAZR excepted of course. Anyways i just thought it was a little ridiculous to have bigger phones now than we had 5 years ago...

you have to remember though, everything is a compromise. You want a small phone that looks great and easily fits anywhere? Well you're going to pay with battery life, hopefully not signal strength but maybe.

You want great life and good signal strength well then you're going to have to deal with something a little bit bigger.

personally for me I'd rather have the RAZR, but i don't use cell phones so don't take my word for it.

I thought about the treo 700w but then figured it would cost too much to use.

how often do you charge it? how much do you use it?
i'm choosing between that and a samsung blade, both same price.

I know what you mean, as I still have my CDMA Startac. Tiny phone for its day, and durable as heck (minus the antenna).

One of the reasons why current flip phones are bigger is that people WANT them bigger.....bigger screens, bigger keypads, etc. The StarTac had a small screen, but then again, when the phone was used for simply making phone calls, that's all we needed. With all the multimedia-centric capabilities of today's cells, small isn't better.

I use my phone a bit and i have to charge it every night or else its dead by morning. It has a 1100mah battery and is supposed to have 3.33 hours of talk time. I personally like flip phones, but the battery life on mine is killing me and i know the blade is even worse.

Can't say anything for a RAZR with CDMA, but mine on Cingular can go about 3 days or more without charging.

Damn!!!!

- Verizon Contract expired yesterday
- was going to go buy the razr tonight

Then this farking article comes out:

Razr vs. Blade (http://www.nytimes.com/2006/01/26/technology/circuits/26pogue.html?pagewanted=2&_r=1&th&emc=th)

I've been using samsung phones for the past 4 years and love them. The software is well designed and intuitive. The article says that the moto software is utter crap:

But the Razr's software quickly becomes the bane of its owner's existence. If you're used to the logical layout of, say, a Samsung or LG Electronics phone, this Razr will nick you badly.

- Address book has only one number per entry, so you have "Dad work, Dad Cell, Dad home" as entirely separate entries
- if several friends' names begin with the same letter, you can't type SY to highlight Sylvia
- No "All calls" list for quick call backs - pushing the "Call" button pulls up Dialed calls only. If someoene just called you then it takes 5 buttons to call them back, rather than 1 on samsung.
- no back button
-iTap is much slower than T9
- The samsung is available on verizon soon.

ARGHHHH! I Just want a new phone already! The moto software might possibly make me throw the fone away if i buy it.

I have a V3c with Verizon and this is not true. The software does have its faults but the items you listed below are not true.

- Address book has only one number per entry, so you have "Dad work, Dad Cell, Dad home" as entirely separate entries

You have the following fields:
Name, mobile1, Work, email1, group, picture, ringtone, mobile2, fax, email2.

- if several friends' names begin with the same letter, you can't type SY to highlight Sylvia

I can do this.

- No "All calls" list for quick call backs - pushing the "Call" button pulls up Dialed calls only. If someoene just called you then it takes 5 buttons to call them back, rather than 1 on samsung.

I press call and I have all calls listed.

- no back button

I have a clr button and back arrow.

-iTap is much slower than T9

Never use so I have no clue.

- The samsung is available on verizon soon.

I assume this is true???

Any further questions let me know and I will verify. I also was not sure about getting the Razr, but so far I am pleased. I am annoyed that it did not come with any preinstalled games for when I go shopping with the wife. But at least I have the option to buy a decent selection. I almost bought doom the other day but didnt want to shell out the $7.

Oh. The article says "Some of these bugs are fixed in the Verizon handset. This must be among them...

Just tried this on my co-workers Razr and it showed "Dialed Calls" only .... Annoying. Maybe yours is newer? Maybe it is a config option?

I dont know what you mean by this. They are stored as a single entry. If I sync with outlook it is a single contact.

Is your coworker's phone with Verizon? The software is completely different than the GSM version.

If you are scrolling through your address book, they show up as "dad home", "dad cell", etc. On my samsung, they are all stored under "Dad" and on the next screen you pick which entry you want to call ,or just push talk to select the "default".

Let me check again ... He has verizon also and the only calls that show up after pushing the TALK button are the dialed calls.

I guess i can live with this stuff if the samsung won't be out for awhile. It is hard for me to make the departure from Samsung after years of happy use, if you can't tell already. I get very attached to my brands.

When I scroll I see a single entry also. I see Dad in which has both his mobile and home and blanks spots for each of his other entries I mentioned previously.

I press the talk the button and it says "all calls" at the top and a indicator next to them, indicating whether they are incoming, outbound, or missed.

Hows that logitech desktop I sold you a few years back doing? ( I think it was you)

Wierd man.... How long ago did you buy yours? My co-worker got his in december. Maybe it needs closer inspection ... Or maybe nobody calls him :)

Dude, the logitech desktop.... Its a lemon!!! I want a refund !!! 3 year refund policy, right?

No, just kidding. It is attached to my dad's computer now and still workin' fine. Sucks batteries right up, but he has rechargeables so he doesn't care. Pretty solid product! Hows yours keeping up?

I got my razr on 1/11/06, my major beef with software is that it cant ring and vibrate at the same time. After some futzing around I was able to communicate without a hitch via bluetooth with my computer, and transfer everything I wanted too.

My LD is fine, however I just passed it on to a friend, since I could not pass up a deal for a new one a few weeks ago.

My Razr v3 can ring and vibrate at the same time -- I just enable the profile "Vibe & Ring"

I went to the verizon store on saturday. As the salesman was telling me that he doesn't recommend razr's because of quality and fragility issues, two, yes TWO people came in to return their razrs. One girl had dropped hers and the hinge was smashed to bits. The other man had his keypad popping up. Since i don't handle my phone too well, i decided that the razr is definitely not for me.

I got a samsung a950 instead and i like it a lot. If it was smaller, i would certainly love it. Can't wait to put a gigabyte transflash card in it with some music.
Thanks for all your advice! I decided to stick with samsung at the last possible second.

I love my Sammy A-900. Damn nice phone, easy to navigate to get to what you want, good features, kinda crappy battery life depending on your coverage area though. EVDO network is damn slick tho, so much faster than previous versions...
