CONNEXION BY BOEING BEGINS OFFERING ONBOARD TV
IN-FLIGHT INTERNET SERVICE PROVIDER CONNEXION by Boeing announced it will begin offering satellite television that passengers can view on their laptops beginning Jan. 23. Channels BBC World, EuroNews, Eurosportnews, CNBC and MSNBC will be available at no additional cost with a paid Internet connection. Connexion customers will also have access to the Internet search engine Yahoo! starting this month. Domestic carriers such as JetBlue and Song by Delta also offer popular programs to view satellite TV on seat-back entertainment units.
Connexion also said it will change its prices for Internet service effective Jan. 31. The company is simplifying its price structure into four categories: one hour of service for $9.95, two hours of service for $14.95, three hours of service for $17.95 and unlimited 24-hour access for $26.95.
Previously, the pricing structure was arranged by a flat rate, buying minutes, or purchasing a block of time. The most expensive package, for a flight of six hours or more, was $29.95.
Internet service is currently available on select flights on Japan Airlines, All Nippon Airways, Singapore Airlines, SAS, El Al Israel, Lufthansa, China Airlines, Korean Air and Asiana. Abu Dhabi’s Etihad Airways and Austrian Airlines have signed letters of intent to contract with Connexion.
