Though I hate the lakers, I'll give this to Kobe.

81 points against the Raptors. Lakers won 122-114.
Amazing.

Hey, whatever it takes to get the Lakers that #8 seed in the playoffs so the Spurs can sweep them. :)
Anyway, impressive achievement by Kobe, regardless of the opponent. I never thought Phil Jackson was that great of a coach, but I think he's doing his best job this year.

no lottery baby... ok then when you put it in that perspective hope they get the #1 seed and then lose to #8

the first thing my little cousin said was, "wow, if he had only scored 20 more points, he could have beaten wilt chamberlain's record."
"if he had only scored 20 more points..." :heh:
but honestly... i was in the shower when the game ended, and when i came out and my cousin told me the news, my first question to him was, "but did they win?"
the fact that kobe could score 81 and i would still wonder if they won is a bad sign. very bad sign...

I needed that. Last couple of games were pathetic and this one started out like the others. #8 = best player in the league. Wait til Lebron or KG come to town.

When I read the headline about Kobe scoring 81 I figured the Lakers lost.....that's the general rule when someone scores an unusually high number, his team loses due to the lack of teamwork, but not in this case.

...then you remembered they were playing the Raptors? :)
Back when Larry Brown was coaching the 76ers, he did a great job of convincing the team that it helped to let Iverson take most of the shots. Jackson is managing to do the same thing, and it seems to be working on everybody except Odom, who is so obviously unhappy that it's almost funny to watch.

Now I know why he drove in and turned the ball over (offensive foul) at the end of the regulation vs. the Kings. And he also shot the ball the end instead of passing it to Kobe. :P

Incredible! I got to see the last quarter. 2nd in NBA all time scoring in a game

With the new hand checking rules being enforced, scoring will be easier.
3 players are averaging 30 or more and a couple more would be if they learned to take advantage of the way the game is being called.
Kobe had a shot at 70-80 twice before and sat out the whole 4th both times. The 1st time he was visibly pissed at pj for pulling him out and so was I. I didn't remeber him pulling Mj out when things were clicking. The 2nd time was another blowout and #8 seemed alright with it.
We may see similar games like this in the future and then the NBA might adjust the rules again or enjoy the publicity this stuff brings. Bron just got his 50 and could go for even bigger games imo. AI, Tmac, KG, Wade, Allen, Marbury, Dirk, etc. could all have monster games, but I don't see 80 happening soon. Then again it could be like the home derby between Sosa and McGuire that helped revive baseball.
Regardless, Kobe double nickeled in one half and that is amazing. :wow:
