when you want a picture you have taken on your digital camera and you want a good high gloss copy of it, do you use your printer to make a 4x6 or 5x7 copy? or do you send or take a cd or what ever media storage you use to like walmart or another place to have them done for you?

Use my printer.

I have a couple good photo printers and the media is reasonably priced.

:stupid: I have a Canon i960 photo printer, and unless you look closely, you can't see the difference between a photo I printed and a professional print. If I want to do a bunch of prints at a time and don't have the patience to do it at home, I'll upload them to an online site like snapfish for prints.

if you print yourself, i HIGHLY suggest you use the same brand paper as your printer. it may cost a little more but the quality is (usually) far superior than your generic high-gloss kodak or fujifilm paper.

and if you know your way around photoshop, you can manipulate your pics to come out MUCH better than your 1-hour photolab. tho, i would have to admit that digital print services at places like costco do a fine job for the money.

Good online photo shops like Snapfish and Kodak/Apple produce output that's hard to compete with. If you're doing a bunch of prints, especially larger sizes like 5x7 and 8x10, I think it's worth doing it this way.

I use my photo printer for proofs and for personal prints, but never for anything I'd want to sell (Canon S9000). I've found that despite what the printer and paper companies tell us, the color does not stay vibrant as long as prints from traditional sources. They are also slightly more fragile.

Meanwhile, Wal-mart and Walgreens and other budget sources are decent for casual snapshots and very convenient, but I haven't been entirely happy with their color or larger prints.
