NEW YORK - Kanye West, with a crown of thorns atop his head, poses as Jesus Christ on the cover of the upcoming issue of Rolling Stone. The outspoken rapper defends his brash attitude inside the magazine's pages, on newsstands Friday. He is also pictured posing as Muhammad Ali.

"In America, they want you to accomplish these great feats, to pull off these David Copperfield-type stunts," he says. "You want me to be great, but you don't ever want me to say I'm great?"

West also says his hit song "Gold Digger" was the best song last year and that it should have been nominated for the Grammy's best rap song category: "That's a gimme Grammy."

Nevertheless, the 27-year-old is nominated for eight awards, including album of the year for his sophomore album, "Late Registration." The Grammys will be presented Feb. 8.

West has always been forthright in saying what he feels, most famously when he said "George Bush doesn't care about black people" during a telethon for Hurricane Katrina victims.

"If I was more complacent and I let things slide, my life would be easier, but you all wouldn't be as entertained," he says. "My misery is your pleasure."

The strangest tangent of the Rolling Stone story, however, is when West says he's addicted to pornography. He remembers first seeing his father's Playboy magazine when he was 5 years old.

"Right then," West says, laughing, "it was like, `Houston, we have a problem.

For what it's worth, Kanye, I don't think you're great. I think you have a lot of talent, but so far you are nowhere near great in my book. Great is Ghandi, King, Einstein, Hawking, etc...

"My misery is your pleasure."

Kanye, you finally made me smile. :hihi:

I don't want you to ACT great, nor do I want you to ACT like a self-absorbed ass. But you seem to do the latter all the time now. Your respect rating - just hit the floor.

West also says his hit song "Gold Digger" was the best song last year and that it should have been nominated for the Grammy's best rap song category: "That's a gimme Grammy."

Sorry, no freebies in the world, Kanye. :nono:
And for what it's worth...don't try to impose your opinion on everyone else just because you think you're (to quote Nelly about 4 years ago) "hot $#!t". You have your opinion, everyone else has theirs. My opinion, Kanye, is that your music is overrated and your raps are pretty generic. The only thing distinguishing you from 'every-other-rapper' out there is that you rap about "trials and tribulations" instead of women, money, and weed. I respect you for that because you don't take the cheap way out...and I can tell that you've had some rough times in your life. However, Kanye - your music is still average rap to me. When you approach the careers of the 'true rap/hip hop phenomenons' (IMO) like OutKast and Ludacris - then you can bring back the cocky attitude. No, wait...don't bring it back. Because those artists who (IMO) are better than you don't bring cocky attitudes to their 'game'.

"If I was more complacent and I let things slide, my life would be easier, but you all wouldn't be as entertained," he says. "My misery is your pleasure."

You're not entertaining anymore, Kanye. For one, your "best song of the year" is played out. For another thing, the attitude - it's annoying, not entertaining. Quit with the "shock" antics...if you're as talented as you say you are, then you can garner the respect and admiration that you believe you deserve without trying to 'shock the world' with your antics.

:stupid: I'd gladly let people think I was cocky or a jerk if I got to have my dream job and ridiculous amounts of money.

Is it? Do other people's opinions bother you that much? Unless the people judging me were friends, family, or God, I really couldn't care less.

I could. Care less, I mean. I could quite easily. But, that's effort on my part, I don't care for effort.

:agree:

People get their panties in a bunch over some silly @ss stuff sometimes...

In the end... does it really even matter? People gonna feel the way they feel... and not everyone is gonna like it either way.

Oh well...

Not necessarily...he could be a G|A member, you never know. :P
I know he'll read what I said about as much as he knows I'll read what he said. It's a 50/50. But that's not stopping either of us from saying what we think though, eh? :hihi:

I would rather have friends than money.

I see stunts like West's as a way of saying,
"Please look at me! I am really lonely!"

I never heard of the guy untill the stink about his comments after Katrina. I havewn't heard any of his songs.
The radio station I listen to does play some hip-hop and rap, just not much. They choose music based on it's own merit. But his stuff never has made the cut.

In that case, I don't think our opinions are that different. I meant that I wouldn't mind if the rest of America thought I was a jerk as long as my friends and family were there for me.
