Anyone have one of these? Do they really improve reception? I am in a little bit of a valley with poor line of site to the closest cellular antenna. Some days calls come through fine, while other days no so good.

Ever notice how much better your cell phone signal strength is when you're outside? Whether you depend on a cell phone for social communication or to conduct business in your home, office or home office, in-building reception can be vital. You don't have to live with a lack of signal coverage in the environments that are most important to you: With the Wireless Extender - Repeater System cell phone signal booster, you can have the cell phone signal reliability you need to improve coverage in your home or office noticeably. The Wireless Extender - Repeater System cell phone signal booster supports 850 MHz cellular phones only; contact your service provider or dial 611 from your cell phone to verify that the 850 MHz band is supported in your area. If you're on a 1900 MHz PCS-based mobile phone, use the Wireless Extender - Repeater System for PCS Phones instead; NEXTEL and iDEN phones are not supported at this time.

The Wireless Extender cell phone signal booster improves cell phone signal strength through signal amplification, improving coverage up to 2500 square feet. If you need additional coverage, just add a Directional Indoor Antenna (sold separately). Place the antenna high up in your attic and run the included RG-6 coaxial cable to the room where you'll keep the base. Once connected, you'll enjoy reduced or eliminated static and fewer dropped calls.

They do work as stated, however, you must be sure that you do not expect the device to do more than its capability.

The system works by placing a small patch antenna on the exterior of your house and then feeding the signal inside to the repeater antenna. Thus, the signal that you receive outside will be replicated inside, both incoming and outgoing. Consequently, if you have little to no signal outside, you will not receive any signal gain by using this system; the signal will be the same as it is outside.

I was actually considering purchasing one myself, as the wireless signal in my apartment is weak at times -- yet strong outside. However, I decided to go with a VoIP service instead so that I had two available lines.

$300 for 50 feet by 50 feet? Sounds ridiculously high to me.

What is the range of a regular cell phone?

They're mostly targeted for business environments where cell reception is crucial but unavailable. I was considering one a while ago for my parents in tahoe since the recieption there is horrible.
