Has any one done those - test drive and get XXXXXX. I am thinking about going to one to get a free lift ticket. I was wondering how to do this? Do i just tell the guy Im here for the lift ticket and just cut to the chase? or do i pretend that im buying a car.

Tell them that you came in for the free lift ticket and that you're considering the car - not that you're ready to buy one.

In my case... one of the dealership guys just signed my sheet to authorize the gift submission and let me skip the test drive.

Guess he didn't wanna waste the time with me actually driving the car if I didn't want to potentially purchase it. :heh:

I keep getting those in the mail. I don't want to buy it, I just want to drive it and see if I scare the life out of the sales man.

I've done it. if you're truly not interested in the car, go towards closing time, and tell them that you're here to redeem this offer and that you're willing to drive it if you really want me to.

they've always just signed it for me.

In California it is illegal for them to require an actual test drive.

I have friends who do these all the time, and get some nice things, up to $50 gift cards for various stores.

One of my friends tell the salesman..."please just sign the form, you really don't want to waste your time taking me on a test drive, you might miss your next big sale from the person coming in right after me while we are away on the test drive."

That's what I do everytime. I get gift cards, sporting tickets, and gear like coolers, gator box and chairs.

hmm i guess i dont want to be so blunt. Ill say something along the lines of I heard about a promo on a radio about a test drive and hope that they just sign the card. if they want me to test drive..sure -=) its fun to go off the curb.

I don't do it to be "blunt". I do it so the salesperson (that almost ALWAYS works on sales commission) doesn't miss out on a sale while they're out with me "pretending" to be interested in the car/truck/suv.

I think of it as being nice to the salesperson and offering them the option of skipping the wasted test drive with me.

Just go in and say "Hi, I am here for the free XXXXX with test drive offer."
The salesman will ask you if you are interested in the car, you say "Not at all, I just want the free XXXXX".
He doesn't want to waste his time either.

so i showed up at the dealer with 2 of my friends. none of the dealers would come up to us. finally we went inside and started looking around. again the dealers avoided us. as we approached the offices, one dealer stood up and walked out the door. we ran into him at the back entrance. He just said "hi" and walked away. My friends then asked him who the GM was. The salesman said he was and then tried to turn and walk away. We then told him that we were here for the promotion. He just gave us 3 tickets and walked away.

I guess he saw 3 asian people in a chevy dealer...chances were we werent going to get a car... but still, he was basically running away from us.

I've avoided them because I don't want to argue with them about running my credit, but some of your ideas seem like good ones.

I have often wondered what they would do if you asked to take it to a Burger King drive through...like in real life.

Done this on more than one occasion - it's worth it if for no other reason, than to see the customer's reaction to you answering "sure" to a question that they knew you were going to answer no to :)

Oops, I didn't realize you were Asian. That puts a different spin on it. You probably figured out that they know an Asian isn't going to buy a US manufacturer car and don't want to waste their time, or the tickets.

Next time take a white friend with you, preferably a red-neck looking type. The salesmen will be drawn to him like mothes to a flame. They won't be able to help themselves.

How do you get on the mailing list for these car deals?
