Hi,
I'm having infinite difficulties while copying my phonebook from my Verizon samsung a530. I'm about to get a new phone and want to save my 250 phone numbers stored.

I bought the data cable from Verizon but cannot get their software to recognize my phone. I bought it so long ago that i can't get a refund or any help from the dodo verizon store people.

I am trying to use BitPim (www.bitpim.org) with these drivers:
http://www.futuredial.com/support/download/USB_Drivers.htm

But get a blue screen of death on WinXP when plugging the phone in after loading drivers. Windows 2000 does not recognize the phone, and blue screens sometimes. I suppose that these drivers were released in early win2k days so i'm going to try an older service pack of Win2k again.

Has anyone found a way to get the phone book out of this phone? Much appreciated!

At this point it sounds like it would be a whole lot less effort to just use pen and paper (or excel spreadsheet).

250 numbers would take at least 4 hours which i do not have. plus more fun to do it with cables and wires and puters.

Also thanks for the link to Howard's forum. I think i found what i'm looking for -- better samsung software.

It's not Samsung fault. It's because Verizon decides to lock up all the PIM features so it could charge an arm and a leg for cable/software/ringtones/wallpaper. I used plenty of GSM Samsung phones and I got software for free from Samsung to backup contacts and download ringtones/wallpaper. My co-worker has Verizon Samsung (dont know the model) and he got aftermarket cable with driver to work with it. I'll ask him tomorrow and let you know.
