We're getting an ATV that will be loaded in the back of our 2004 F-150. The ramps will put an additional load on the tailgate during loading that may eventually test the OEM cables.

We've read alot about tailgate cable failures on GM, Chevy and even Dodges, but nothing so far on Ford F-150s. Just to be safe, we're looking for powder coated steel or stainless steel straps for the F-150.

Any G|A folks know about replacement tailgate straps for F-150s?

This is an example of one for a GMC pickup.

Instead of putting the ramps on the edge of the tailgate, disconnect the cables and either let the tailgate down on the bumper (pad it with a rag where it hits) or temporarily remove it (it should just lift off). Then, put the ramps against the edge of the bed itself.

Depending on the length /configuration of the ramps themselves and the height of the bumper, this may not work, but I wanted to throw it out in case you hadn't thought of it. It is worth a try before spending money on new hangers.

look at www.f150store.com or www.performanceproducts4trucks.com. Both will have aftermarket parts for the 04 F150 including ramps and tailgate add ons.

Thanks ufc! Both of those sites have a ton of F-150 stuff. I'll take a look.

I get both of them sent to me for my F150, but I havent bothered to do any changes yet. I have been dying to do my intake and exhaust but have yet to invest the money into it. Hope that helps you.
