I just suped up my comp with a new motherboard and processor. Originally I had IDE Harddrives. Now my mb can use both. Can I run both type of harddrives. Meaning if I get an SATA harddrive, can I still use my ide harddrives in my IDE ports?

Sure, I do that on my home PC -

I'm booting from SATA & using IDE for storage & optical drives.

:stupid:

I do the same thing... although I did finally upgrade to a 300GB SATA drive for storage just recently.

I might consider doing this as well on my next hard drive purchase. :D

When I upgraded my computer last year it came with a SATA HDD/controller, but I had an old IDE HDD hooked up temporarily until I got all my files transfered. I can't remember clearly what the problem was, but if I'm not mistaken there was some tweaking required in order to get regular read/write speeds off the IDE. The computer wouldn't recognize IDE correctly and I got really slow speeds. Eventually, I didn't the bother to fix the problem, since I would be removing it anyway. Just a heads up.

Sounds like a weird mobo problem almost.
I always have to mess around with BIOS when switching back and forth between SATA and PATA.
