Hey guys,
I've debating which LCD monitor to get for awhile and it comes to Dell 3007WFP and Samsung 244T. Both support HDCP. The monitor will be used for viewing the spread sheet/chart and TV when I'm off from work (I have a TV tuner card).
Dell 3007WFP
PRO:
It's huge
It's inexpansive (selling $1700 on ebay)
3 yrs warranty
CON:
11ms g-g, 13ms b-b
Have to use Dual-link DVI (needs to upgrade my video card)
No extra input options
Background uniformality (sp?) Left side is darker than right side
Maybe too huge?!
Samsung 244T
PRO:
It's a Samsung!!
6ms g-g response time
array of input options
CON:
$600 more than Dell 2405WFP
10ms g-g response time (Samsung advertises it with 6ms g-g but lists it with 10ms g-g in the spec. Very confusing!!)
1 yr warranty
I need to buy a LCD ASAP because I sold mine already. Starring at a 14" laptop screen everyday gives me a headache. Any input is appreciated!!

Why not the Dell 2405FPW? I have the Samsung 243T at work and the Dell is hands down a better monitor for a much better price.

Because 2405 doesn't support HDCP. :)

 Whats HDCP?
HDCP stands for High Definition Content Protocol and is a copy protection scheme to eliminate the possibility of capturing content sent digitally from the source to the display. The format designed by Intel with help of Silicon Image that distributes the chips to enable the scheme, HDCP enables a secure connection between devices such as DVD players and HDTV set-top-boxes using an authentication and key exchange procedure before video and audio is presented.
Basically, if you want to use Windows Vista, you have to use a monitor that supports HDCP. Also, if you want to view high-def from blue-ray, you will need HDCP. It's just a function to fight the piracy.

I did some more digging on the web.
Samsung's 6ms g-g is the average and 10ms g-g is the worst case senario. (good enough for me)
I do game occasionally (CoD2, Zoo Tycoon2). The only game that supports this crazy resolution that 3007WFP is capable of is Far Cry and I need 2 GeForce 7800 GTX 512MB to run. Don't have that much cash in the wallet. Even if I don't game on this monitor, I still need to shell out $200 for a new video card just to reach its native resolution.
SO....I ordered the Samsung 244T. Sure, it's more expansive than Dell 24" but it also performs better with HDCP compliant. Maybe when Dell drops 3007WFP's price to $1400, I will consider get rid of my Samsung 213T.

You mean if I have the Dell 2405, I won't be able to use Vista?

You can use Vista, but you can't view HD content such as HD-DVD and such at full resolution.

until it's hacked or a dongle is made to bypass it.

Well, just to add a bit more fuel to the whole HDCP fiasco, it looks like current-gen graphics cards don't even support HDCP fully -- contrary to what we all took for granted.
There's a great article over at FiringSquad (http://www.firingsquad.com/hardware/ati_nvidia_hdcp_support/) that talks about this.
(and yes, I can't believe lpmiller beat me to the punch by talking about a hack or other device to bypass HDCP -- considering in every other thread that mentions this, I'm the one who usually brings it up. :) )
