So what's the difference between the two formats?

Yeah, I've googled it but haven't found much of anything concrete. I know the -R technology has been around longer, and that the +R technology used to cost more, but they seem to have come in line a bit. The media costs are identical, and all of my players seem to play both fine.

So what's the difference? Anyone care to chime in?

I had a store clerk tell me once that the +R format burned the data in a way that allowed for a crisper production of audio.

-R used to be more widely accepted by a range of dvd players. Most newer units will play both, but it wasn't always like that. If your player is older and it doesn't sound like it is -R is something like 86% compatible or something. I'm sure that's changed though.

+R used to be cheaper...

as far as tech specs, i haven't heard of any difference.

Yeah, but they're pretty much the same price across the board now...

I wonder if it's all propaganda.
I've bought both and used both and never had any problems with both.

If I have a choice, I usually buy -R based off the 'myth' that -R is more compatible, but then again...(see above) I'm wondering if it's all propaganda/myth put out by the companies behind the media. (Pioneer with -R and...Philips (?) with +R.)

Like was said, it depends on the age of the player. I copied a couple of things for a friend and the +R would not work in his home DVD player but the -Rs did. Most newer players can handle both so it is much less of an issue than it was.
