View Full Version : Can an ATX PS still be shorted to be turned on?

Anyone recal the pin assignments to turn on a PS (outside of the computer).
I want to use it to power some 12V DC components in my lab.

Green to Black (Pin 14 to any Ground wire). :)

That is way cool. I almost did something like once but then I found a really cool rack mounted 1000W Frankenstine looking thing

I've read that doing the pin-short trick might damage a power supply.
That said, I know that the instructions for installing a water cooler have you running the pump with the power removed from the motherboard (by shorting two of the pins on the power connector).
