Excellent price!

I believe buy.com's recent TV ads are a response to their poor customer satisfaction. (ResellerRating customer service 0.92 out of 10.00 (http://www.resellerratings.com/seller2107.html))

But I'm almost tempted to give buy.com another chance on this small ticket item... almost.

Honestly, I've never really had a problem with Buy.com.

Also they are one of the few retailers that periodically send the "10% off almost everything (there are a few exceptions) " coupons.

As a matter of fact, I just placed an order with them to buy a new ADSL modem. :thumb:

I haven't seen the TV ads, but their solution is to bring more people in with advertising, and not fix whatever got them that ResellerRating?

Honestly, I've never really had a problem with Buy.com.
I used to think buy.com was one of the best on-line retailers. I’ve ordered from them many times. But since they’ve outsourced their customer service to India, it’s a thing of the past.

Here’s the quick version of my horror story:

1) I ordered MP3 player and Flash Drive (used by MP3 for memory) for Xmas gift. Both items listed as “in stock”, flash drive had a rebate.
2) Got notice that Flash Drive was back-ordered. Shipped MP3 player anyhow (pretty useless without the flash drive).
3) I cancelled flash drive electronically (purchased elsewhere) after rebate period expired. Received pop-up confirmation of the cancellation.
4) After a another week, the flash drive order was still shown as “active”. I e-mailed customer service and requested cancellation. Buy.com had removed their customer service phone number from their web site so it is almost impossible to talk to a human.
5) I received e-mail confirmation of the cancellation.
6) A month later buy.com ships the twice cancelled flash drive and charged my credit card.
7) I refused delivery and the item was returned to buy.com. UPS confirmed this.
8) Buy.com failed to issue a refund within 30 days of receiving returned merchandise, as required by law.
9) I filed a dispute with my credit card company who removed the charge, after additional confirming paperwork of course.

This almost identical horror story was posted numerous times on ResellerRatings by different people purchasing different items. It appears that if the item is in stock: no problems. If one must deal with customer service: MAJOR headaches (hence the 0.92 out of 10.00 customer service rating).

It’s been 18 months since I’ve ordered from them. They could have at least offered a coupon to try to win back some business. They still offer great prices. Maybe someday I’ll purchase something small (like this flash drive) and work my way up... maybe someday.
