I am beginning to look into how much it would cost to move my cars cross country, but would like to know if anyone had a suggestion as to which company to use? At this point my wife and I have decided that there are several options.

Option 1: Sell my car, move only my wifes. Buy a new one over here.
Option 2: Have car transportation company move my car for me.
Option 3: Sit for a damn long time as I drive cross country.

At this point, I need to figure out a base idea of what it currently costs to ship a car. This way I can do a real analysis whether its cheaper to drive ir or ship it....thats assuming time is not an issue.

We are currently thinking that we will list my car for sale and if it doesnt sell for what we want, then deal with the possibility of moving it. The idea of driving 2630+ miles is not that appealing to me...especially in a truck that gets 17 mpg on a good day.

Let loose with the suggestions! FYI...probably wont respond until after the bar is over. This break is already taking too long.

You can't tow it behind a larger moving truck than you would otherwise need?

Two things: 1) In all likelihood, as I am coming over before my wife, there is no moving truck involved yet. 2) We would be using professional movers to move a WHOLE lot of things, I have never seen them tow a car behind a professional mover. Plus, I dont want our BMW to be out in the open like that.

I was quoted around $1500 to move my truck (small Toyota) from Oregon to WV (~3000 miles). They also said it could take up to 2 weeks to have it delivered.

A covered delivery would be about $1700-2000 with a reputable company.

can you get a 18-wheeler, maybe roll the car into the front of it?

If you transport, go with Goldrush. Great company.

I'll drive it across the country your willing to pay for the expenses (food, motel & flight back).

Yes, I'm serious.

Why does the movie "Moving" (featuring the late Richard Pryor) come to mind while reading this quote from Nija. :heh:

When I was in school I used to work for a moving company during the summers. You are looking about 1000+ for each car based on distance. This is for an open carrier. A closed one will be more. If your company is paying for you to move, they could load the car onto the moving truck as well. Usually a company will only pay for one car though.
