In divorce papers, Nick Lachey is seeking spousal support from Jessica Simpson, and he wants his jewelry back.
In court papers filed Friday in response to Simpson's Dec. 16 divorce filing, Lachey cited irreconcilable differences for the dissolution of the three-year marriage.
Lachey, 32, also asked for "miscellaneous jewelry and other personal effects," part of Simpson's earnings from after the date of separation and other assets.
Lachey said he and Simpson separated Dec. 13, although she claims it was Nov. 23.
The couple, who starred in their own MTV reality show, "Newlyweds: Nick & Jessica," had no prenuptial agreement and in her petition, Simpson asked the court not to grant Lachey spousal support.
Lachey, who gained fame as a member of the boy band 98 Degrees, had more earning power when the couple wed in October 2002. However, Simpson's fame skyrocketed during the marriage. The 25-year-old singer-actress reportedly earned more than $30 million last year, including earnings from her big-screen debut playing Daisy Duke in "The Dukes of Hazzard" movie.
Last month, the Mediterranean-style house the pair shared during "Newlyweds" was sold to "Malcolm in the Middle" teen actor Justin Berfield for an undisclosed price.

he wanted a prenup and she didn't feel they needed one, (*whoops*) but then she wasn't as "famous" when they got married.

so he put himself at risk in the begining and that was fine with both of them. i'd expect the same out of her. she owes a good portion of her fame to their tv show, which wouldn't be possible without him.

I personally think he shouldn't get jack. It was her not him who was famous......but if this turns out like normal divorces he will get half.

Technically, he was "more famous" when they married (as part of the band 98 degrees), yet her fame developed and eclipsed hers during the marriage.
Any other time that happens, the spouse gets half (in California)... it is just ironic that it usually is the man who's wealth increases and not the woman's like in this case.

I understand this but I never heard of him before that but I def knew who she was. I think it is safe to say that more people would say the same than not.

Not to say that I gave his "boy band" any attention (as I didn't.. :hmm: ), however it doesn't change the fact that in the beginning of their relationship, he was the greater "bread winner", but now he's rollin' in her dough. :heh:
Besides, man to man... I'd look at you funny if you didn't notice who she was once her popularity began to grow.

Without the reality show I really think both of them would have sunk into obscurity. Their marrage in effect made her success. So yeah, he deserves a piece of the action.
As for getting the jewlery back....if it is family hierloom type stuff then fine but the rest is gone.

I don't blame him one bit. They married, she's got lots of money...according to law (ie without a prenup in place), he gets half. I don't see the problem here.
Women do it all the time...like bachviet said, it's about time a guy gets a break. :)

:agree:
What's to argue here? He was more famous than her when they got married, she's bigger now. He asks for half, she should get it.
If the roles were reverses, think Ms. Simpson would be asking for her "fair share"? I bet she would...

And no, I dont keep up with any Nick Lachey songs... but I did know that he was in a band before he got married. But don't ask me to name any of their songs off the top of my head.

Who cares about Nick?? Drew is the HOTTIE in the Lachey family tree. But I do hope Nick takes her to the cleaners. I am sure her daddy is crying buckets over the $$$ she will lose.

When they started seeing each other Jessica was a rising super star and Nick was one of back-sync-kids. I thought he scored by hooking up with her cuz he had no marketable skills after the hype was gone.
Nick Simpson is a pimp. He got to live the good life, made money from having the relationship and will now be getting a percentage every song she sings and every little sexy pose she makes.
