people browse this ALL the time, I'm not shocked that there was somebody responding right away to your posting. This site has alot of scams tho. Either deal with them in person or use, paypal or USPS money order. personal checks are pretty iffy. make sure they pay for exactly whats it's selling for, if they pay you more, RED flags should be flown.
well, this guy says that he's going to stop by tomorrow and pay me the money so that i won't sell the items and he will schedule someone to pick up .....i'm kinda ifffy about that ....

ask for cash
as for reliability, it's no different from the newspaper classifieds.

that's normal with craigslist. everything i've ever sold has gotten 20+ responses within an hour. i gave away a turntable a few weeks ago and got over 50 responses within an hour, 15 or so in the first 5 minutes.

heh, make sure you type in craigslist.com, not craiglist.com... my wife found out that you really really really really don't want to mistype it, especially at work. ;)

like others have said, the fast responses are definitely normal. if they're dealing with you in person, all the better; just make sure to ask for cash.

always be careful with meeting any stranger. have someone there to watch your back if you can.

i sold my motorcycle in about 6 hours. guy came up from virginia to pick it up.
a 2 hour ride for him.
i was a little skeptical at first. but he paid cash and offered his personal info to show he was trustworthy.
a phone call would help to kinda feel out the type of person you may be dealing with.
THANKS!! to everyone for their responses ....hopefully this guy won't flake because I've been trying to sell this for months now.

I've picked up a free Oracle: The Complete Reference book for free from someone in DC. All I had to do was go to his house and pick it up.

I've never had anyone flake out on me from a purchasing/giving away standpoint. Some people just flat out don't respond. But that's never been a big deal to me.
