Smirnoff Searches for a Cocktail Consultant

Smirnoff vodka is searching for an "enthusiastic drinks guru" to span the country to research cocktail culture and submit reports.

The new employee, who will hold the title of Smirnoff Cocktail Consultant, will get a $50,000 salary and a $50,000 expense budget to conduct the work, which includes providing twice yearly Smirnoff Cocktail Trend Reports. The report will identify the "latest and greatest" in the world of drinks for a one-year term, Smirnoff said.

The prospective candidate will have prior knowledge of mixology and the culinary arts and a general passion for entertaining and all things epicurean, Smirnoff said. Responsibilities include traveling to major cities across the country to identify new trends in cocktail mixing and drinking.

Smirnoff plans to relaunch its Web site Smirnoff.com within a week or so, and one section will be dedicated to the contest. Entrants must submit a three-minute video about how they would contemporize the Moscow Mule drink and make it attractive to today's vodka drinkers. The Moscow Mule, a mix of ginger beer and Smirnoff, is the first drink the vodka brand created in the U.S., said Patty Constantino, spokesperson for Smirnoff-maker Diageo.

At the site, entrants will find applications and contest details or can call into a toll-free number to get the information. The application asks a number of open-ended questions to determine the entrants' creativity, such as "If you were stranded on a dessert island what one cocktail would you bring and why?"

Applications are being accepted through April 1. The winner will be announced at the end of April.

Hmmm...give up the law to research drinks.....when I cant drink. Yep, somehow I dont think I would make the cut. Mr. Crusher, when was the last time you had a Smirnoff drinnk? Oh, at my bachelor party back in 2004...yep, I used to drink it alot as Vodka is one of my favorites but all these medications mean if I drink I will die, so I prefer to live.
