FYI, if you're thinking about any of the Sharper Image deals on the Ionic Breeze air purifiers you might want to think again. Consumer Reports has consistantly advised to avoid these units and has successfully fended off defamation lawsuits from Sharper Image regarding their stance.
You can read about it for free from Consumersearch.com here:

It's the Bose of air purifiers. It's a good product as long as you understand EXACTLY what it's made to do and understand that's ALL it's going to do. Otherwise, it's a waste of your money.

Call me dense but I don't get the analogy... what EXACTLY is it supposed to do (other than make money for Sharper Image)?
I thought it was supposed to purify the air. According to Consumer Reports it doesn't do this as well as other products that are available.

What I read a while ago about pure air ionizers is that they ionize dust particles in the are which make them stick to things (the wall, floor, etc.) which makes the air 'pure' in that the particles are no longer floating. The problem is that the particles are not being removed from the room via a filter so over time the room can actually get worse as particles are dislodged back into the air and build up into quantities that the ionizer can't handle any more.

Yep, they ionize dust. That's pretty much it. They probably couldn't purify the air in a walk in closet.

Uh, in a way I hate to defend a product that I persoanally have stated that is the Bose of the air filter industry, but...
Some people are missing the point and function of the product here. It is basically an electrostatic air filter - that is, it charges air (and thus dust) upon entering the unit, then the dust is attracted to the removable, cleanable plates. You remove the plates, which are chrome plated blades in this case, wipe or wash them clean, and return it to the unit.
There is airflow from the unit. A LOT of dust is collected on the plates.
The key to these is, well, there are several to keep in mind. They are grossly overpriced, and they don't have the capacity to do a large area - even the largest models don't. However when SI has a clearance, and they dump the refurbished (IOW clean as new regardless of as-new or less-than-new condition) for dirt cheap, then they aren't a bad deal. I bought a couple of the large GP models when the stores had them at under half price for as-new refurbs last year. They do work, really. I could clean the plates every day and wipe dust off off them.
From experience, they clean about as well as a fan forced HEPA unit on the lowest speed. I've had many of those over the years, and I keep them on the lowest speed to keep noise down. So I still have dust in the house. Now crank the HEPA unit on high for a few hours - the Ionic Breeze or it's competitors can't compete by a longshot.
Sorry to ramble, but I've used both HEPA and the Ionic Breeze units. I guess I just realized that the latter has shortcomings, mainly in price. Get a good sale on a refurb, take a $100 off $200 or more coupon to snag a couple more, and it's not a bad deal at all.

The first models did, and they STANK! Literally stank! Haven't tried any of them in a few years so they may have improved on it by now.

It's me again...defender of stupid breeze things but I still hate Bose (juuust kidding on the first part).
Ozone emission isn't bad. I tend to close rooms at night (force of habit I guess) and have electric cable heat, so those closed rooms don't have airflow coming/going. When I open a room with an Ionic Breeze (or one room with an Ionic Pro - FAR cheaper and decent build) I don't notice a strong ozone smell.
By contrast, just firing up the laser printer for a few pages generates more ozone. Firing up the laser printer for a couple hundred more more pages DEFINITELY is stronger in the room than sticking your head in front of one of these things.
The newest ones have what might as well be called a catalytic converter inside the front grill - which deals with the ozone output. I think SI is dumping the old stock due to the new models on the shelf and new models coming.
BTW no, I don't work there.
