Is there any good place to buy cigars online? My ex-boss is expecting his 2nd next Friday and I wanted to send him some really nice ones. Every time we smoked he brought them, so I am kinda clueless. I don't want to get ripped off by "cubans" and I am not looking to spend $40 for one, but I don't want to get Schwisher Sweets...

Anybody have experience?

True, although he did say he participated and even contributed when he was much younger.

I'm with BlueIndian! JRcigar.com is the way to go.

I have gone to JRtobacco in person to buy cartons of cigarettes when I used to smoke as well as cigars at the time. For my wedding we ordered in a box of cigars from them. They are a great company with good prices.

My personal favorites are a double corona with a double maduro wrapper. Although I have a cuban in my fridge right now from my good friends wedding which I havent enjoyed yet. Maybe I will light it tomorrow if I can find my snips.

how much do you want to spend? cigars are kind of like wine in that you can get a really good cigar at low to moderate prices and you can get a really good cigar at high prices, but you can also get really bad cigars that are overpriced.

also, do you know what types of cigars he would usually smoke? the biggest difference is whether he prefers a natural wrapper or a maduro. again, like red or white wine, some cigar smokers have a strong preference for one or the other.

and if you happen to know what size he prefers, that would be helpful too

Ok, just in case LK misses this opportunity, I gotta go ahead and do it.

"Well, he always told me size didn't matter to him." :hehehmm:

Carry on.

Ummm...wow...

Anyway, AFAIK he prefers natural wrappers with larger cigars. How much do I need to spend to get him somethinig pretty nice? I am a complete newb.

He's the guy who help me get started in the business, gave me a shot when I was looking for a job, and helped me get where I am. I wouldn't mind spending some money, perhaps 100.

torano cameroons are a personsal favorite:

fuente coronas are good and lot of people "know" this brand, so if he's around cigar smokers they may carry some snob appeal.

another of my favorites, la gloria cubana series R

with all of these, you can shop around and get bigger or smaller ring guages or lengths. generally, most folks conisder a 50 ringer to be "big", though there are some guys who like the 54 and 56 size, and they even make 60 ringers now (but even Ben Williams would be afraid of that one!)

I like 46-50 myself.

Also, your choice is going to depend on whether he owns a humidor or not. No everybody has what you need to store a box of cigars, though you can make a very functional humidor to hold one or two boxes for ~$20.

Quite possibly, the best gift would be a sampler box, which JR does not sell online. I've given them on several occasions and they were always well recieved. Your local cigar shop could help with that.

Awesome. We had some Feunte Coronas a while ago so I ordered him a box of those, he has a humador. Heh, I ordered those for him and the Wine deal on the main page during lunch. The sys admins are probably thinking I have a few too many vices.

Thanks!!
