A four-year-old girl's fourth birthday party was ruined when her new doll started swearing.

Alicia Bell's talking doll sang "a**e, a**e we all fall down" instead of "atishoo, atishoo we all fall down".

Her shocked mum Sam, 22, confiscated the toy but Alicia had already learnt the new word, says the Mirror.

Sam, from Peterborough, said: "We'll be in town and Alicia starts shouting 'a**e, a**e', it's so embarrassing."

Alicia's uncle Richard, 20, bought the £7.49 doll called Rosie at Toys 'R' Us.

Maker Character Options, which has sold 300,000 of the dolls in the UK, said: "We suggest they return it to our customer relations team to assess."

Does the writer of that site realize that you can put more than one sentence in a paragraph?

Atishoo?

I always thought it was "ashes, ashes, we all fall down". Maybe that's what it was really saying and these lame-o's didn't realize it.

it's such an old song that it evolved very differently in different places. there are some really good books out there that explain the etymology, history and evolution of childrens rhymes and songs...

my first thought was that it was manufactured in, say, china, or somewhere else where people are likely to be more familiar with american than with british english, and it might just be the crappy speakers that make "achoo" or "ashes" sound like "arse."

there's a "scandal" like this every couple of years... there was a teletubby doll that said something in chinese (i forget what) that, to the rednecks around here, sounded like nothing other than "bite my butt." before that, i think there was an elmo that said some questionable garbled something or other...

When furby's were big, I bought them for the girls (as a gag christmas gift)..I also got some for my young nieces..what we found out was that if you put three together, they would say lovely phrases like *f8ck me! and dumbass*..lol..it was weird.

Well...either way...it was probably saying "ashes" as it is the closest match to the word "a$$es" and fits the song (whether it is incorrect or not :P )

:ptlaugh:

hahaha, thats great. I agree that it might not be a good influence on the child but when I was that old, I heard everyone around me cursing their heads off... now, I was in Venezuela and if I even thought of saying c_l_ (just like the song) I would have gotten my tongue cut off!

I'm sure the kid hears curse wordings and cussing left and right. Perhaps the parents need to take SOME responsibility!

in this case? not imo. there are lots of 4-year-olds who've never heard cuss words, and who wouldn't even know that there are some words you're not supposed to say. who wants to spend a birthday party explaining the concept of cuss words to a 4-year-old? and even if this one did know, who needs a kid's toy legitimizing that kind of crap? the parents have every right to be upset.

(and for the record... i tried to get my furbies to cuss *before* i had kids. ;) )

It worked VERY WELL with three..with two they only said everyday phrases like "I'm hungry, or hello"..the three, each placed slightly turned to the left, yet in a triangle shape really made the things go wild..My girls were older so they got a kick out of it-but my nieces..ohhh boy, let's just say my brother got pissed!..lol
