Lately, I have been having major issues with my old AT&T (Cingular) cell phone and I am at the point I need a new one. I am thinking about taking the plunge into the smartphone arena and I was hoping that someone out there could give me a first hand account of using an 8125. The user reviews I have seen so far are mostly positive with a few really bad ones, so it has me wondering about quality.

Also, it was kinda funny, on CNET, the editors rating this phone lower than the Treo 650 and 700W, but the users rated it significantly higher.

I have read good reviews on it. It's pretty much the standard smart phone issued by HTC, an OEM. If you look at Verizon, Sprint, t-Mobile, and cingular, it's pretty much the same product. Some modifications include the processor, service provider specific software mods, and small changes to the overall hardware.

From what I read it's almost all positive. i am going to be getting the Sprint version (ppc-6700) soon.

The I-Mate SP5/M is the HTC Tornado, aka T-Mobile SDA, which has WiFi but it doesn't have a touch screen and keyboard like the 8125 (T-Mobile MDA). I was looking to buy the SDA.

Little Bulky but really nice...

The cingular 8125 is the HTC wizard. T-mobile sells it as T-mobile MDA. Verizon Sells it as VX6700. Sprint sells it as PPC6700. I-mate sells it as K-jam. Its the same hardware but different housing. Its a great phone but its got a little slow processor which is 200mhz which is not quite sufficient to run skype but I overclocked my friends phone to 240mhz and skype works fine..

Well, I checked out the Jasjar and while it seems like a great phone, I just can't stomach spending $600+ on a mobile phone. I ordered the 8125 from Cingular last night for $299. They gave me a month of the Unlimited data plan so that I can try that out. Even if I like it, I prolly won't keep it. $40 a month is pretty steep for mobile Internet access. From what I have read, I will definitely need to do some reg tweaks on it, but I am looking forward to messing with it this weekend. Should have it when I return home on Thursday.

I have the imate version of the phone (k-jam). I like it a lot. Since I bought it my company has quit deploying blackberrys and has started deploying the 8125. Users that have made the switch have loved the 8125.
