Yay, I'm going on a business trip in May!
That usually sounds pretty crappy, but it's a meeting in Barcelona Spain. So, after this weeklong meeting, I think i'm going to take a week and go around the country. I think I'll primarily be around barcelona, Madrid, and Seville.
Anyone been there? Any good places to visit in those places? I'll probably need to plan and get some Lonely planet books. Or...should i go somewhere else (Like drive to southern france? go to italy? etc?) I have 9 days to burn.

Wow! Sounds fun - I've never been to Spain, but would like to take a trip some day.
If you have that much time to burn, maybe look into a Eurail pass (http://www.eurail.com/) - that'll make getting around much easier.

It really depends on what you like to do, and what the weather will be. Madrid can be really, really hot in the Summer.
If you like to do/see really unusual things, drive from Barcelona into France, by way of the tiny country of Andorra...
"Andorra, located in the heart of the Pyrenees Mountains, is the highest inhabited country in Europe.
Postage stamp size and about 1/5 the size of Rhode Island, Andorra has no formal constitution, no income tax and no army.
With duty-free shopping, gorgeous scenery and great skiing, it attracts thousands of worldwide visitors on an annual basis."

Also, Segovia, about an hour bus ride from Madrid, is absolutely gorgeous with much of the old European architecture intact. It's great for a daytrip, or even to spend overnight.

Last year I got to spend a week in Marbella and thought it was very nice. I think you've got the right idea in getting a travel book and renting a car. After spending a week in Barcelona you'll probably want to get out and explore the countryside.
The hookers in Spain are just plain gorgeous. Mostly from Brazil and Russia.
And as a strange conincidence, there is a real good chance that I will be there on a business trip as well. Mine would be in the first week of June though.

In the words of Elton/Bernie: "They say Spain is pretty though I've never been." A friend went there a couple of years ago and used the Eurail France - Spain Pass. She was glad that she had it.
Like Nickel, I got a T-shirt out of the trip. Better than nothing I suppose.
