I Just joined an indoor soccer league at school and I don't have any sneakers!! :eek3:
What's a good pair of athletic shoes I could get? We'll be on a basketball court, so I don't need cleats. There will be lots of aggressive running (something light) and kicking (something stiff)... cross trainers, maybe? Any recommendations on brand and types of shoes I should get?
BTW, I'm not even sure how many games we'll be playing. Thus, I want an all-around good pair of sneakers that I can use for other general athletic activities after the season is over.

just get some indoor soccer shoes. i don't think you want to be playing in regular sneakers because you need something that's made to take the impact of a soccer ball hitting it.

Yeah, they make shoes specifically for indoor soccer.
As a side note, indoor soccer shoes make for excellent martial arts shoes :)

Most indoor soccer shoes are made for playing on "carpet", not on a basketball court. I think that would make quite a difference.

I agree. I think indoor soccer shoes are actually too much for a basebetball court. If you don't really play a lot of soccer, normal tennis/running shoes will be fine. You don't need anything special, just something you can run in and have a decent touch on the ball.
If you were playing in a real indoor league you might want to get a pair, but it sounds like you are doing more of an Intramural soccer league.
As long as your shoes have enough grip(so any tennis/running shoe) that aren't high tops you should be good to go.

Tennis shoes won't give you a good touch, or feel for the ball. They are too bulky and will cause the ball to fly in weird directions because of it. Indoor soccer shoes come with rubber gum type bottoms not the ones with the rubber cleat type. If you can find the flat type of rubber gum, you will be good to go. They act like basketball shoes giving you good traction on the court. Especially if you: don't wear them outside and get pebbles stuck, and if you rub them in a little water before you start playing, you will get really good traction.
I have a pair of Diadora ones that i've had for about 10 years. I've played indoor soccer through college, and when I was younger. They are the really nice ones that were about $100.
Depending on how much you want to spend: This is where I get my soccer stuff, their prices are pretty comparible.
Adidas ones are pretty nice:

Nike Legend IC (https://www.prosoccer.com/productDetails.php?1=1&userId=eJ9vB7oR9xS7aY3i&productId=2747&language=english&)

Sambas are legendary. I love them and prefer them over anything else I've worn in the past from Nike.

Baggio is right on the mark. It all depends on how much impact having a pair of shoes that aren't indoor shoes will make. In addition to having different soles, indoor soccer shoes area also have a flatter upper on the shoe, which gives you a more uniform surface to strike the ball.
If you don't play much soccer and don't plan on playing much indoor just get a pair of regular sneakers. While cross trainers would give you good support, they aren't going to be very good for kicking the ball.
If you really want some indoor soccer shoes you can get some online without spending too much, Eurosport typically has a very good selection of shoes on sale. They are located at www.soccer.com.

Baggio and Greg are right.
Eurosport is the place to get them. Get a pair of Sambas. They are great soccer shoes (flats) and they look good enough to bum around in plus they are comfortable as heck as long as you aren't going to walk to china and back. :)
