I just got it today. I'll tell you how good it is this weekend. If you don't hear from me, assume it's fantastic. :)

My roommate picked it up (for the 360) Tuesday. We've been alternating playing the game, but he started a mage/warrior and after about 12 hours of gameplay, he is a level 5. I have a custom magic only class (Magic Pimp)...and after 3 hours, my character is a level 9 and Journeyman in 3 skills.
The game is fun, but I'm not sure how people could really get sucked in as much as people described losing their lives to Morrowind. I'm still looking forward to (and my roommate is dreading) Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter coming in tomorrow or Wednesday so I can split the xbox time with that game.

Is it worth picking up a 360 right now with the limited game selection? Obilivion looks cool, but I can get it for PC anyways...

I'm gonna wait until all 3 next-gen systems are out before I decide which to get. Especially since, like you said, the 360 is weak on games right now.

I ask because bestbuy.com has the 360 premium in stock right now... so if there ever was a time to get one without all the packaged crap...

By the way, I tried playing the game...my system exceeds all the recommended requirements, and the game still runs slow as hell even on low-detail modes.

I would grab one if I were you. I wouldn't say the system's games are particularly weak, but you do need to pick up a gamefly membership if you buy the system. I would suggest owning Call of Duty 2, Ghost Recon, Oblivion, Madden, Project Gotham Racing 3, and renting at least Kameo, Amped 3 (weirdest storyline ever in a non-japanese video game), and Condemned. I'm also eager to check out Dead or Alive 4 and Fight Night Round 3 (one which arrived today and the other that is first in my queue online). But yeah...I love the system, and even the XBox Live Arcade games are really fun (I've paid to download Geometry Wars, Zuma, Bejewelled 2, and Backgammon).
Actually, when you move to the DC area you'll live close enough that i could loan you call of duty 2, project gotham racing 3, kameo, or amped 3.

I must be playing slow.. I'm 10 hrs in and almost level 3 :)
I think it's just all the sightseeing and stuff I"m doing.. :)
Things I've noticed:
I had a magic sword, that glowed, with fine detail on the handle that was gorgeous.. great patterns
I left the Imperial city and had climbed the mountains.. looked back towards the city and could see the whole place with great detail still..
The NPC character details, are fabulous, along with the monsters.. they actually look awesome
Load times (360 version) seem to be about <2 seconds while moving between sections in town.. ~5 seconds when moving between building/town, ~20-30 on first boot/loading new major area.. I don't see much delay or slowdown at all at full detail.. [i think this is where the 360 probably bests most people's desktops, unless your desktop is just da bomb]
3rd person is good for exploring and looks 'average', not the smoothest, but ok.. 1st person is probably how it should be played otherwise.
I can see unlimited ways to play - i'm playing a fighter/mage right now, but with 10 races, multiple designs of abilities, zillions of quests, that's why I said >200+ hours.. (heck i'm 10 hrs in and have only done 4-5 quests i think).

I would say yes to picking one up. I bought a 360 and launch and finding that right now there are too games I want. I am loving FN3 and just picked up Ghost Recon, but now I want Oblivion and maybe Burnout.
I would say pick up a 360 once the shipments start flowing in this week or next. There are plenty of good games out that will hold you over for awhile.

Anybody looking to buy this on PC...even though it says that the nVidia GeForce cards are supported, don't be fooled. The game runs at about 3 frames per second.

No problem Irish. That's what I love about G|A? All of the other users are looking to use a referral from a friend when it is an option. Anyway, Perfect Dark Zero was one of the first games i rented from GameFly, and the online options were pretty cool. I only made it through about 6 levels, but I had fun with them. I would definitely suggest throwing the game in your Q and testing it out...and if you like playing online, go ahead and buy the game (GameFly has an option where you can click a button and they'll let you keep the game they already shipped you and they'll also mail you the game's case and booklet...and it all costs about $40 for a lot of the games).
One more warning Irish. Gamer points and achievements are VERY addictive. Microsoft made a great choice including those points because you have people trying more games and genres just because they want the extra gamer points.
Final note: sign on to XBox Live and drop the $5 to download Geometry Wars for the xbox live arcade. It is one of the best simple games I've ever played, highly addictive, and a great bargain at just $5.

Ok, Im the type of guy that tried to get into Morrowind because it sounded so cool, but I just didnt enjoy it at all so I stopped playing after a few hours. Is this game going to be the same way for me? I really want to like it, but will I if I didnt like morrowind?

I hated morrowind, but so far am liking OB. It's more like Gothic than morrowwind was.

I have to say, I was playing last night (and I play with the room dark because I'm playing on a projection screen)
and I was in an area where you were trying to close your 1st oblivion gate... and I was honestly scared crapless with the darkness and lightning and things jumping in and out... {night eye was even cooler}
this game's great (i'm up to lvl 6), working on the mage recommendation letters..

finally played this game over the last weekend for the PC, it's an awesome game.
I hated Morrowind, played it for all of half an hour before I put it in a drawer and never saw it again but Oblivion is much more entertaining for some reason.
I'm playing an assassin in an already slow game and I'm used to faster paced games like BF2 so I figured I'd be going out of my mind with Oblivion, but I'm actually having a lot of fun with it

I played Ghost Recon last night and it blew me away. The sound was fantastic and the graphics were as well.
It's actually not a good thing to advance your level too quickly... All Monsters will level up as you advance your level. So later in the game, if you didnt pick your magor skills properly, you can find yourself stuck at a story line. If you have athleteic or acrobat as your major, you advance quick but you dont actually have a STRONG attack or defense.....
Game as a whole is FUN! But not a fan of the leveling.... I am a traditional D&D leveler...

Level 14 now, halfway through the mage quests (Warlock)... (put the main quest on hold)
50 hours gameplay in..
Half of me feels like starting a new character just to be able to play it a different way (thief, or warrior) and try out different skills.. but still just playing my mage and resisting the temptation :)
Quite possibly the most engrossing game I've played in a while...
-------
On a side note, I did take time out and finally got the 6 Black Pearl Sunflower Cluster in Hexic! :) I think i ended up #340ish in the world.. I hate to say I'm proud of that, but it's one of the most proud accomplishments I think I've ever done in gaming..

My Oblivion should arrive to my doorstep in the near future (thanks ialsohaveadream).
What class is the most fun to play as starting out??
booger73
04-12-2006, 05:50 PM
You can pretty much do anything you want (warrior, warrior-mage, mage, thief, archer, and any combo of all that inbetween).. it mainly depends on skills.. i personally like the mage, 'summon something, 'throw in some fireballs' and hack-slash if i'm up close combo personally..

this is why i only do console gaming anymore. doesn't matter how much you pimp your system, there's always going to be one game that doesn't like your system...
prm is hooked on oblivion. i screwed around with it a little, and i love watching the graphics, but i dunno... at the end of the day, i just need more retarded entertainment. i was playing thief on xbox for a while, but i get genuinely scared when i'm hiding in the shadows from city guards who want to beat the dogsh** out of me. too emotionally intense :P so, he swashbuckles, and i bust out the kongas or dance pad... oh, if you ever want to see me at my bright and shiny whitest, watch me on a dance pad...
Perfect Dark Zero any good?

Aye, I picked it up from Gamefly for like $32. It's definitely enjoyable, but I hate the console aiming routine. I used to be pretty good with it on games like 007 and Perfect Dark on the N64, but I guess I've just gotten way to comfortable with the mouse aiming on PC games.
Mebbe I just need to get squared away with the 360 controller still.

The online matches are really where PDZ pulls ahead. I especially like that you can include bots in your online play, so if you can't get a deathmatch started...you could play one entirely locally if you wanted. Definitely a plus that most console games have left out (I'm looking at you, Halo 1 & 2).

You either use soul gems that have captured souls in them(or use the soul trap spell to capture a soul into an empty one). If you don't have any soul gems, you can pay somebody at the mages guild to recharge them. It normally costs a grip though.
