Now that my home theater is almost all set up, I've decided it would be fun to watch episodes 4-6 again. Can anybody point me to a good source for reading up on details (background, plot, history, characters, etc) of what happened in episode 1-3? I don't want to have to watch those horrible movies first. I might actually watch episode 3 cause I heard it was decent, but for the first two, I'd rather just do some quick reading.

thanks

Go to your local Library or Book store, read the children's versions of 103... that will give you the nut shell or I can try here

Episode 1: The Find Anakin Skywalker, the Chosen One. The Council says he is too old to train him, Qui Gon Jinn says he'll train him anyway. Darth Maul kills Qui Gon, Obi Won Kills Darh Maul, Anakin meets and falls in love with Padme. Obi Won is allowed to train Anakin

Episode 2: Former Jedi turned Sith Count Doku helps create a clone army. A war starts, Anakin Marries Padme.

Episode 3: Anakin kills Doku, Obi Won kills Grievas. Padme is pregnant. Palpatine turns Anakin to the Darkside and he kills Mace Windu. Palpatin declairs himself Emperor while Anakin kills tons of Jedi including children. The Clones kill a ton of Jedi. Padme looses the will to live after seeing Anakin kill kids. Obi Won fights Anakin and fubars him. Palpatin saves him and turns him into Darth Vader. Padme gives birth to twins than dies. Obi Takes Luke to his uncles and Bail Organa takes Leia

Not a bad summary, but I'll do this in l33t-speak...and of course make it more brief, since leet-types can't concentrate on a sentence for more than 3 seconds.

Ep 1: omg lol drth vdr is n00b!

Ep 2: pwned by dooku!

Ep 3: drth r0xx0rs! padme = dead

I agree with DF - they weren't *that* bad. I actually enjoyed them to a certain extent.

Haha. I don't know how long the kiddy versions are, but anything that takes longer than watching the two moview back to back would be an even bigger waste of time. :D That's why your summary is really good. I just need a little more background and character briefing. Thanks!

I know the first two weren't that bad. I actually saw Ep 1 when it first came out. I didn't really hate it, but the thing is I don't remember anything, and I don't want to watch it again. I guess I could bear watching Ep 2. I'll browse the website Sirrich recommended and if I'm still confused, I'll just watch the movies. I have netflix, so it wouldn't be too much trouble.

In the end, the important thing is that I'm fully prepared for my Ep 4-6 marathon.

I agree but I just hit the major themes that I felt really related to Revenge of the Sith :amidala:

As for the background of characters.... who do you want.... and do you want more than is in the movies..... take Solo.... he has a detailed past, just his movie part starts in 4. The childhood of both Luke and Leia are still being written as the last gap to actually bridge is between ep 3 and 4. Well they are still putting together parts of the story here and there with books. Or going back on the timeline to explain the history of post ROTJ characters like Thrawn.

oh oh oh and in Ep 2 Palpatine gets the blue prints for the Deathstar.... that's important too

I don't want anything too detailed. Just enough to cover what was in the movies. I think I have plenty of sources for now. Thanks so much for your little synopses.

One was that bad. I am as bog a Star Wars fan as there is and I find that one painful to sit through. Episode 2 is much more tolerable.

What's it like to be a "bog Star Wars fan"?

Pretty muddy I'd suppose... maybe Jar-Jar would like to hang in the swamp with ya. :heh:

Being the G|A Star Wars Book guy (well everything Up to ROTJ) The first movie was easier to watch after reading the book and the few books before that. It made more Sense and in the whole scheme of things was ok. One of the things I really liked about Ep1 was QUi Gon. He rules! Perhaps if he didn't die and he had trained Anakin maybe there would be no Vader.... who knows... Throughout the books leading up to Sith Obi Won ALWAYS questions his ability to teach and is always wondering what Qui Gon would do and what not....

So I guess I shouldn't feel too stupid. I remember having no clue as to what the hell was going on when I watched Ep 1.

Gotta watch the special effects, at the very least. Make sure to watch it on the biggest screen you can get your hands on with the Dolby Surround & DTS WAY UP! Enjoy!
